C++ Strategies and Tactics (Addison-Wesley Professional Computing (Paperback))
C++ Strategies and Tactics (Addison-Wesley Professional Computing (Paperback))
von Robert B. Murray
  Taschenbuch
Preis: EUR 40,68

4.0 von 5 Sternen Valuable thoughts for the intermediate programmer, 3. Juni 1999
This is a clearly written introduction to some of the subtleties of C++, discussing topics which you otherwise might not think about until they came back to bite you. I would recommend it for the C programmer migrating to C++, and possibly for the junior programmer who is just starting professional work. Note that it is slightly dated; for example, templates and namespaces are not mentioned.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Valuable (but verbose) description and vocabulary, 3. Juni 1999
This is an excellent catalog of ideas for "encapsulating the part which varies" (the recurrent theme). Notably, it proposes several alternatives to inheritance in important applications. As several others have noted, the descriptions are too verbose (even the code examples seem bloated); this is an annoyance rather than a true obstacle.

2.0 von 5 Sternen Neither fish nor fowl, 8. April 1999
Rezension bezieht sich auf: C++ for C Programmers (Taschenbuch)
This book has been at the bottom of my heap since I bought it. It is too long and poorly organized to be a valuable introduction to the C++ language. But it is not a guide to good use of C++ (a la _Effective C++_ or _C++ Strategies and Tactics_), because most of what it presents is bare exposition of language features.
On the plus side, it is fairly thorough, with coverage of templates, STL and namespaces.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Invaluable for its unique insistence on gritty realism., 25. März 1999
Have you ever noticed that none of your introductions to C++ ever mention things like header files? This book corrects that omission with a vengeance, taking us deep into the nuts and bolts of real software. It describes things no other book is going to mention (e.g. redundant external include guards, or static nonmember functions to replace private members) and things the object-oriented community prefers to be silent about (e.g., encapsulation in files, not in classes).
Lakos's great strength is in pragmatics; this is advice on programming from someone who has been there. If your project is large enough to need source code control, it's large enough to need this book.
Sometimes the book drifts away from its roots, assuming a dragging academic tone. However, this does not change the overall rating -- a book with no substitutes.
