5.0 von 5 Sternen Lights, Camera and good to see you once again., 14. Januar 2004
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Rammstein - Lichtspielhaus (DVD)
As the DVD began and the Rammstein logo flashed, I was faced with the virtual control - panel, which impressed me as a click-on industrial dark-core construction in shades and shadows of iron-darkness-greens. It clicked, clattered and whined as I watched topics and instructions fizzle in and out, zap and then focus as if the device were searching for the best reception. As the camera began to roll I was deciding what I wanted to view after this one and when I would view the others. It then occurred to me that this DVD is a fan's custom made movie house. Once again, it is Rammstein giving all that they do and making their archives new to spoil their fans one more time.
The DVD includes highlights from 6 concerts ranging from 1996 to 2001. If you'd rather not begin with a concert, there are all those music videos and the makings-of those music videos to choose from. Watch them in sequence or mix and match them up with how they were made. There is a Specials option that includes interviews with subtitles in five languages so you can follow what is being said in your own language or you can test your knowledge of the others that are offered.
However many Rammstein concerts you've seen, however much you have collected of the old works of Rammstein, you don't have it all. Lichtspielhaus is the ultimate collection.

Listening to this powerful, dark, exquisite, moving CD, I suddenly feared language and my limitations to express the masterfulness of this piece as a whole. Caught in wonder my heart is moved and I am left speechless.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Ein Heiser Schrei! A Fable and a Tale of Feuer Frei., 27. April 2003
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Feuer Frei (Audio CD)
Once upon a time there were six men who were farmers. They were wonderful farmers who tilled and sowed and took very good care of their land. One day they decided they wanted to do something different and formed a rock and roll band. They were so smart, that they took their farm equipment and made it into instruments, and they were so smart that they began to write music, and then text to sing to the music. They played music for their neighbors, and then for the neighbors' neighbors, and soon for other neighbors of their neighbors' neighbors' neighbors.
People loved their music so much that the band decided to call themselves Rammstein and play for people's neighbors all over the world. Rammstein became so loved and so popular that movie directors asked Rammstein permission to use their music in their movies because Rammstein's music was that good. Rammstein was very happy people's neighbors all over the world and movie directors loved their music that much.
One day, other people who made music like Rammstein did decided that because they liked Rammstein's music so much that they wanted to record a tribute album for them made up of all Rammstein songs, so Rammstein would know that they were honored as good musicians who were very smart. The group of other people got together and recorded an album that they named "Battery: a Tribute to Rammstein." When people listened to it, sometimes they got lonely because it wasn't really Rammstein singing, but it was a very good recording and people's neighbors from around the world were happy that other musicians who made music like Rammmstein did liked their music so much to make a tribute album for them.
Soon after something very amazing happened. A movie director liked Rammstein's music sooooooo much that he decided to have Rammstein appear in one of his movies and sing one of their songs themselves. Rammstein was very happy that producers now liked their music that much and people's neighbors around the world who liked Rammstein's music were very happy to hear this news. In fact Rammstein was so happy that people's neighbors around the world were happy with this news that they decided to make an album single from the song they played themselves in the movie and they decided to take two songs from the tribute album made in their honor and add that to the album single to make all the people in the world, neighbors and directors and producers, happier yet. It worked!!!
The Feuer Frei single has the original version plus three mixes, two of which are by Rammstein themselves. They picked two songs from the tribute album Du Hast and Buck Dich, cover version by Battery, and made a CD single that excites and rocks. This is the 5th CD single from the Mutter full length CD, another outstanding recording from Rammstein.
Very happy that they made so many people's neighbors' neighbors, directors and producers from around the world happy, Rammstein decided to take a rest. They went back to the farm to till and sow and take very good care of their land as wonderful farmers do, and think about what they would like to do next...

Rezension bezieht sich auf: Rammstein - Live aus Berlin (DVD)
"B wahret einander" proclaims Till as his arm pans motion parallax across the crowd. Christoph Doom drives the beat hard and strong while Oliver, Paul, Richard and Flake keep melody and choral tone. Live Aus Berlin is a concert like no other.
Flake's extreme keyboard notes scream the warmth of church hymns in Wilder Wein, from the 1994 demo, or hum a hip 70's style song in Asche Zu Asche, as Richard and Paul shout vocals into microphones on fire. Flames shoot up and out and sparklers flare as Rammstein hammers out select selections from two of their landmark CDs, Herzeleid and Sehnsucht, one's tribal metal to the other's techno-rock.
A highlight of this three-ring performance is Buck Dich, in it's creme de la creme vaudevillian style. Lead singer Till, walks out to center stage with that Buster Keaton glint in his eye, and acts out the frustration of the couple struggle with the keyboardist. No leash can hold him and when Flake breaks away, in abgehacht, the singer then turns to the crowd. What follows is like sitting in the front row of a Gallagher performance cross cut with takes from the Broadway musical Hair. When the singer finishes his song, he exits stage right trailing a garden hose behind him that has been snaked up the back leg of his knickers.
During the final set, Flake sails in a rubber raft on a sea of fans who handle him around and back to the stage where he takes his bows. After the final song, Seemann, Rammstein crawls off stage on hands and knees. There is none like them.
Only on the VHS will you see Buck Dich. The DVD does not have it, but it does have an interview with subtitles in three languages, muticamera views of three songs, and a bonus track. With the DVD you can watch the whole thing from start to finish or pick and choose your favorite parts. I opted for purchasing the DVD and the VHS for the complete Rammstein experience.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Tribal and Raw., 14. Juni 2002
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Herzeleid (Audio CD)
This CD is one of my three favorites as far as full length landmark studio CDs by Rammstein go. This is their first, the most angry, the most tribal.
Dark techno war-drums and electronic construction sounds pattern after the heavy sounds of the 60's Sir Lord Baltimore's "Oh Come My Kingdom Come" and Bloodrock's "DOA, Dead on Arrival" recordings. Haven't heard of them? I'll keep it simple then. Herzeleid is the 90's making the 60's sound like the 80's in hard rock meets electronic sound, flesh and metal. Der Meister has a U2 flavor to it. Surely, you've heard of U2! Heirate Mich is mass sung in deep German, and Rammstein, the last song, takes me to a construction site where people scramble as Black Sabbath's Iron Man passes judgement. Don't tell me you don't know who Black Sabbath was!
The CD comes under two different covers. One has the bandmembers shirtless as the follicles of an orange-red flower that is in full bloom, the other as a portrait photo in blue-white tones in which they look more boys than men.
For any Rammstein Fan, both should be in your collection.

5.0 von 5 Sternen As Children Aspire To Be., 8. Juni 2002
A friend of my daughter's gave me the DVD to watch. A week later I bought my own copy. Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone is a good film, captivating, innocent and entertaining.
It is English practical and every day. If it is possible to be a wizard and a witch, then it is simply so. You will walk through a wall to get to track 9&3/4, and take the train to Hogwarts. The staircases are always moving, there is a three-headed dog the size of the fabled Cerebus named Fluffy, and there are centaurs and unicorns. Star Wars 'dark side' has taken a new twist, and Harry is the new Seeker in aerial FuBball, as the team players fly on brooms. For the most part I find chess boring, but that's not Wizard's Chess, terrifying and death defying.
Young and old will enjoy this film. Harry Potter is enchanting as it should be.

Nickelback's Silver Side Up is an excellent recording. Exceptional on the CD is 'How You remind Me' and 'Too Bad'.
'How You Remind Me' is a realtionship that many people have faced and a solution that many have taken that is not the smartest thing they could have done. 'Too bad' is another sad scenario put to musik that rocks. It is the Father that doesn't stick around with his family and so they have to manage, which is all they were doing to start with. All the surviving kind can say is "well, that's too bad." The music drives and kicks and the lyrics tear wide open. For me, Silver Side Up means to get the lead out!
This CD is a worthwhile purchase. It's sehr gut.

After a day at the soccer-field, ants meet at the disco to dance the night away!
The Links DVD was a surprise. The musik is from the CD single. Rammstein shows again that they are outstanding artists who do not limit themselves to only outstanding recordings. This time the fireworks shine from the dance floor as the Westbam mixes play and insects boogie on. The photography is unique as bodies join and separate and the Geradeaus mix drives the game.
Halleluja is an array of color outlining the Rammstein logo. There is a photo gallery and the original Links video with a special video, "The Making Of". I cannot imagine a Rammstein fan who does not have a copy of this. It rocks and its Rammstein.

5.0 von 5 Sternen The Third Is The Gothic Charm, 19. Mai 2002
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Mutter (Audio CD)
Rammstein has a way with eroticism and pain that is masterful. This CD is one of my three favorite full length landmark studio CDs by Rammstein.
They combine warmth and dread in industrial dark Penny Lane for the meeting of the '70 Beatles and Rammstein 2000. In Mutter, Rammstein holds you, the beats drive you, the harmonies surpass anything they have ever done before. Guitarist Richard follows vocals with lead singer Till in Spieluhr and again in Mutter as the underline of the text in deep smooth tones. Flake is choir master of the choral keyboard notes. The CD reminicses of the orchestration of the Beatles' Apple years and the canted symphony backup of 'I Am The Walrus'. In Mein Herz Brennt, I see Eleanor Rigby pick up the rice in a church where a wedding has been in between the verse, 'Sie kommen zu euch in der nacht, Damonen Geister Schwartze Feen'. Aaah, look at all the lonely people. Bassist Oliver, guitarist Paul and Drummer Doom Christoph complete the presentation, but there is one flaw. The CD is not long enough. You play it again, and in the silent echo that follows the haunting last track 'Nebel', a tingling longing lingers as an emptied church. The best thing to do is concede. Repeat all. What's left is wantoness in a warm partying mood.
Do these guys have any more CDs? You know they do. Either hard-to-find or out-of-print, there are two other covers of Mutter, special edition green with a few live tracks and a limited edition red, that makes enough to fill your 3 to 5 disc CD player. All are well worth the purchase. The special editions won't be around forever...
