5.0 von 5 Sternen An Excellent Starting Point!, 20. April 2000
Mr. Fridson has clearly dissected for us all the possible ways of achieving a net worth beyond a billion. The book is written in a clear, concise manner. It's almost like a tree diagram, if you will. Meaning the goals are like the nodes of the tree and the pathways to get to the goals are like the interconnections in a tree diagram.
He has backed up each section and node with examples of individuals who have travelled those paths such as H.L. Hunt, Ross Perot, Sam Walton, John D. Rockefeller, Bill Gates, Paul Getty, and Warren Buffet just to name a few. This book is an extremely good starting point if you would like to reach the top ranks in net worth. As the author correctly points out, we are lucky to have such a book in existence today, since even a decade ago people were not lucky enough to have a powerful source of information at their disposal.
A word of caution for the individuals in the investment field: Mr. Fridson points out and proves that to amass billions just by mere investments is not possible. He proves that to achieve billions in the investment field, one must acquire a substantial stake in a company and control the management and the direction of the company as a whole. This is precisely what Warren Buffett has accomplished (in despite of the common myth that he is just an investor).
The book is concluded in what I would say the most beautiful chapter. This is where we realize that tenacity and perseverence are traits ascribed to the great fortune builders. More than loving the money, self-made billionaires love the pursuit of money. We learn here that ordinary efforts and conventional approaches do not produce extraordinary results. One needs to do things differently and persistently to outmanage the competition.
To sum up, this is the greatest book (if not the only one) to teach us the pathways to amass billions and leaves the choices to us as to which path we like to follow to get there.
Good Luck!
Steve.

The Millionaire's Secrets: Life Lessons in Wisdom and Wealth
The Millionaire's Secrets: Life Lessons in Wisdom and Wealth

5.0 von 5 Sternen This book moved and redirected my whole life!, 11. April 2000
It was a late, hot summer of 1997 while I was on my lunch breakfrom IBM at the local mall in Toronto. They had me doing what theycalled "systems research", but it was not satisfying myintelligence. And so I was at long lunch breaks and this day I popped by Coles, the bookstore in the mall. At this time I was always researching business books and company informations (having been reading on Warren Buffet and other great investors, such as Philip Fisher), I was naturally browsing the business section so I could better my knowledge in this area. My eyes caught a little book on the bottom shelf that read "The Millionaire's Secrets". This is how I stubmled upon this book, all by accident. Of course my first reaction to myself was "Here's another scam once again." I further thought "Yeah, you sure will be a Millionaire yourself by selling tons of this to pour souls who will buy this book". So I looked away at the other business books, completely ignoring this one.
After around 10 minutes of browsing this section, I took another glance back at the bottom shelf and thought I should prove my two previous thoughts correct and at least read the titles of the chapters. Chapter 1 read "In which the young man feels estranged at work ..." I thought "what the hell!" This is me! This is my own situation right now. It really got me more interested. I started reading a few pages right then and there. The book absorbed me. I was in a state of awe as my mouth stayed open while browsing the other chapters. I felt quite embarrassed at myself for my previous thoughts. I bought the book right then.
For the next couple of days (at lunch!) and night, I finished the book. I underlined it and took notes from it. It was as if he has written from my own perspective and about my own life! It was such an amazingly effective book that I marked it as the most influential book that I had read (since it was the first one that I had read in this field). I realized the author was Mark Fisher. I did a quick research on him and found out his 3 other Millionaire books (the Golfer was more recent) and bought them all. "The Instant Millionaire" as well refers to the notion that being a Millionaire is nothing but a state of mind. That's where it all begins. But this first one sat on my heart and mind. It became a guide.
This became a pointer to the areas of Self Help, previously I never looked at Self Help, I thought it was really for the mentally retarded individuals who need help in life! What a mistake! Through Mark Fisher I found Mr. Anthony Robbins and his great book "Awaken the Giant Within". He has devoted his life, goal, and focus fully to making the lives of people better! And guess what? As a result he has one of the best lives himself! So as you can see how one great book will lead the path to other great books and those will further radiate to others. It's all a chain reaction.
Too bad I am reviewing this now, 3 years later (since I just became aware of Amazon's review section!), if I did it in 1997, then perhaps more people would have read this and been affected by it, but I still hope to move people. After reading this book, I took action, I left IBM and set to achieve my own goal. I have been moving towards my goal ever since. I thought, how can I be living towards another person's dreams and goals (i.e. working for someone else) as opposed to my own.
I hope you will read this book if you haven't done yet. It is not to be taken lightly. It is written very simply with powerful meanings behind it. The story has a few elegant passages that are very touching.
Thank You, Steve. END

5.0 von 5 Sternen Talk About Motivation: This is a Bible of Life!, 10. April 2000
I was lead into this book after reading Mark Fisher's "The Millionaire's Secrets". This lead me into the areas of Self Help. Then one night out of the blue I thought: "Hey who was that guy on TV late nights that I used to watch? The guy who travelled to Australia and they showed him on TV. He was always happy looking and looked built also. He was clapping his hands in tune with the music they were playing on TV? Just who was he and what was his name? " I thought. I thought more and said Aha! "Anthony Roberts!". I had no idea of any of his books, but I knew he must have had some. So I quickly went to my trusty Altavista search engine, typed up " +motivat* +"anothony roberts" ". To my dismay, nothing much came up. So I tried again with the last name only. Again nothing, then I tried the first name, and bingo! I realized his last name was Mr. Robbins!
Guess what I did the next day? I bought his 3 best sellers. I began reading "Notes from a Friend" since it was smaller and I wanted to break the ice with this new author to feel his style of writing. Wow did I ever find this little book to be such a Giant Motivator! I made underlines all over it and took reference pages on the last page so I can quickly jump to any page later on when I desired to. (I usually do this and it's an excellent practice!) Then I bought a copy for my girlfriend and gave it to her as a present.
I then moved on to "Awaken the Giant Within". I must say this one took me around 4-5 months to finish since I read it around 4 nights a week and wanted to absorb fully all the information in this book. He has very many thoughtful ideas in there that really make one think. I thought "WOW! How come I have never thought of that myself?". Here is a man, who really cares. He has devoted his entire life to helping others better their lives, and guess what? He, himself has one of the best lives on earlth! Bravo Mr. Robbins. He is an idle, a hero, a man of honesty and compassion for others. He clearly shows that if we set goals in life and work hard towards them we will achieve anything that we desire. In fact his main points can be abbreviated into five letters: CIMPA = Consistent, Intelligent, Massive, and Persistent Action! So if our actions consist of these four elements, we are bound to succeed! How true that is!
If you are not going to pick this book up, you are going to miss out on many things in life. I strongly urge you to read this book as you will see how powerful the words are in it. They will not only move you emotionally and mentally, but physically as well. It is a large volume to read but the information is best absorbed slowly and through time, since our mind can take so much information at one time.
Best of Luck!
Thank you, Steve.

One up on Wall Street: How to Use What You Already Know to Make Money in the Market
One up on Wall Street: How to Use What You Already Know to Make Money in the Market
von Peter Lynch
  Taschenbuch

5.0 von 5 Sternen Use Common Sense to Invest!, 8. April 2000
Mr. Lynch has shown us here how to invest (not trade) successfully, one can just use common sense. For example observe people in the malls: What store do they walk in most? Where are most of the crowd headed? Take note of the stores/businesses. Ask your wife/husband what their friends buy, where do they shop at? What products are they talking about at your husband/wife/children's work/party? These are all clues as to what business is selling more and will have a greater earnings for the upcoming year. Watch the competitors, who are they and are they selling more?
Basically by applying all the basic observations in the daily life of a business and *networking* information from family/friends, once can spot the "10-baggers" (a company whos's stock price will be 10 times higher in the future.)
It is written in a plain and non technical way for the general investor to understand what investing is all about. A very useful book.
Thanks Steve.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Positive Programming! Well Done., 7. April 2000
Mr. Schwartz has clearly written a well book here to prepare a person to look into the positive side of things and think BIG. As I have read by all the successful people over and over, it's the key to success. If we think big and also have belief in ourselves, then we will succeed.
The book is filled with examples (with co-workers and business partners). In fact I found it to contain a bit too much of examples. I was looking more into conceptual ideas. And there were a few of his ideas that I was strongly against. But the other 95% of his ideas are excellent. We are human and can not be expected to agree with anyone 100%.
Over all a very well and encouraging book. Well done!
Thank You, Steve.

The Compleat Day Trader
The Compleat Day Trader

  Gebundene Ausgabe

1.0 von 5 Sternen For traders with "indicator" obsession!, 7. April 2000
Rezension bezieht sich auf: The Compleat Day Trader (Gebundene Ausgabe)
I picked up both the books in one day and was looking forward to finding out new information for trading. Essentially this book is filled with "indicator" information. This means he covers in great detail points in the chart such as Moving Averages, RSI, MACD, OBV, ROC, etc. Mr. Bernstein also believes that if one puts all the indicator info into a software, it can direct us when to buy and sell!
It depends what kind of philosophy one has on trading. If one believes that trading can be automated then this book can be analyzed and programmed, otherwise if one thinks tomorrow's prices will be influenced by asian markets last night, then no point. The book suggests to track an intra day 3-minutes(!) Moving Average of a stock's price for optimal results. Personally I vote against this type of trading.
I did not move onto the second book and returned both.
Thank You, Steve.

Rezension bezieht sich auf: The Electronic Day Trader (Gebundene Ausgabe)
Mr. Friedfertig and Mr West have gathered for us a collection of good information for Day Traders. They look at the insider's viewpoints, the market maker's and the trader's. Their newer book "Electronic Day Trader's Secrets" has more real life examples, and I enjoyed it more. But this book also contains valuable information to know for the trader.
Thank You, Steve.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Real Life, Live Examples!, 31. März 2000
A very well book. It gathers and puts together the thoughts of many of the greatest Day Traders in the US. This is a real example of how to learn from the best. If one listens to what they are saying, success will follow. One can learn from the best of the best's mistakes and use their starategies and techniques affectively.
I found this book very useful.
Thank You, Steve.

The Golfer and the Millionaire: It's About Having the Drive to Succeed
von Mark Fisher
  Gebundene Ausgabe

4.0 von 5 Sternen Cute Little Guide., 31. März 2000
Mr. Fisher has shown us once again, this time through a game of Golf that we can really accomplish anything in life if we really wanted to. It's all about having the "drive" to succeed. We aim at the hole from afar in the game of golf and take a swing. This is also precisely what we do in real life!
The only minor glitch is that I found it a repeat of his other 3 Millionaire books but through a different storyline. However a well written book.
Thank You, Steve.

Mr. Fisher shows us here how Millionaires really think and act. We can see the world from their perspective and get an idea of what it's really like being a Millionaire. He clearly shows that wealth is indeed a state of mind. That's where it all begins.
