5.0 von 5 Sternen So geht's....., 4. September 2011

1.0 von 5 Sternen Another disappointment, 13. Dezember 2010
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Never Let Me Go. (Taschenbuch)
What a terrible shame! This was my fourth Ishiguro book. One was four stars, the next was about two to three stars and the last two were quite dreadful. Such a sad thing to have to say but I'm afraid that was my last Ishiguro. It is not necessary to write more because the plot (?) has been explained by many critics already.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Wonderful meditation, 23. Mai 2010
Rezension bezieht sich auf: The Sea. (Taschenbuch)
Do you have to be old to enjoy the story telling of an elderly man looking back over his life? I found this book a real treat. Maybe that says something about me. The story is interesting and makes you think about your own past. The style is interesting, using various time scales from today, yesterday, a few years ago and back to childhood, yes, exactly how you think back over your own past. The literary style is very pleasant and easy to read although I had to often take a break to think over what I had just experienced. I found it quite like meditating..strange, wonderful. Thanks Mr Banville.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Mixed opinions, 5. Mai 2010
Rezension bezieht sich auf: London Fields (Taschenbuch)
Can't say that "London Fields" fascinated me. Yes, it was interesting. The unusual style of present, past mixed with various main characters could be thought complex. Generally I enjoyed the read but wasn't really enthralled. Looking back to the end of the eighties when this book was published and how some people then seem to have been insulted by Amis' style, content and characters, then you know how difficult the life of a writer can be. It is worth 3 stars for me but I well understand 5 star ratings of many critics. Worth reading.

1.0 von 5 Sternen Not much remarkable for me, 23. März 2010
You can start at any place in this book and read 10 pages, skip 50 and read the next 10 and so on. You could also work backwards. It's just as fascinating! Reminds me of Joseph Hellers "Something happened" which was probably an influence (to put it politely) on Mr Mcgregor. It is certainly remarkable that the Rezensions up to now were so positive. Can't recommend it at all, sorry.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Extremely interesting, 22. März 2010
Sometimes very sad but always very interesting, this book tells the tail of a young, intellectually advanced, boy who is hit by the World Trade Center disaster. The way he thinks and the "adventures" he experiences are well thought out and well described by Mr Foer and wonderfully put into words. The form of the story telling is unusual and to me very attractive. The mixture of normal text, handwriting, photos and drawings make the intelligence of the main character all the more realistic. Recommended!!

4.0 von 5 Sternen A question of style, 21. März 2010
Rezension bezieht sich auf: The Book Thief (Taschenbuch)
Quite a difficult book to get into, in my opinion because of the style: Often childish, strange metaphors which don't fit for me, sometimes it seems to be written just to impress. Yes, just plain difficult. But, and it's a big but, alls well that ends well. The story does develop well and the last third of the book is excellent and very touching. To be recommended but don't give up too soon. It's worth it to keep going to the bitter end.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Not much fun, 13. März 2010
Having had to read a couple of Conrad's books when I was a child and not really enjoyed them, I thought I'd give "Heart of Darkness" a try in my later years. No, sorry, I can't say it was much fun or very exiting or a great experience. Can't recommend it either.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Sometimes intricate, 11. März 2010
Rezension bezieht sich auf: The Tailor of Panama (Roman) (Taschenbuch)
Le Carre's "The Taylor of Panama" is quite an intricate story containing a great deal of subtle humour, interesting character descriptions, pictorial writing and a good plot. A book to just sit down and get involved with. What more do you want? To be recommended.
