5.0 von 5 Sternen I couldn't put this book down, 4. Juli 2000
I have a degree in art, produce a newsletter and do layout for newspaper ads, and I still found plenty of interesting and useful information on almost every page of this little book, even though it's intended for novices. (Maybe I'm a bit slow!) I especially enjoyed the author's cataloging of typefaces and discussions on how they can be combined. A refresher on "rules" of design was a welcome review. I read it from cover to cover and took notes at the same time.

All God's Children
All God's Children
von Thomas Eidson
  Taschenbuch

5.0 von 5 Sternen A completely satisfying read!, 17. März 1999
Rezension bezieht sich auf: All God's Children (Taschenbuch)
I thoroughly enjoyed this narrative. It may never win any awards for great literature, but the author has a fertile imagination and comes up with fascinating characters. The events in the story kept me riveted. It's funny, too. But the thing I enjoyed the most was finally reading a novel in which the main characters were truly heroic in their actions. The bad guys are really, really bad dudes (rape, murder, torture - for starters), and you want to stand up, whistle, and clap for the good guys.

2.0 von 5 Sternen Maybe only a programmer can enjoy this book., 17. März 1999
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Soul of a New Machine (Taschenbuch)
I was disappointed in this book because the characters were so sketchy. I could hardly tell one character from another until late in the book. The story seemed like a string of unrelated incidents, each one with little point. Every time Kidder would relate something going on in the computer lab, he would give so few details that it was impossible to get interested in the events. There was no definitive explanation as to why people were acting certain ways. Maybe you have to have "been there."

The Simple Truth
The Simple Truth
von David Baldacci
  Gebundene Ausgabe
Preis: EUR 31,95

2.0 von 5 Sternen Way below par for Baldacci, 1. Februar 1999
Rezension bezieht sich auf: The Simple Truth (Gebundene Ausgabe)
I was a huge Baldacci fan until I read The Simple Truth. It was "preachy" and obviously attempting to be politically correct; his characters were caricatures of conservatives, liberals, southerners and blacks. Baldacci's women always seem to me to be the weakest part of his novels, and this one was especially bad in that department. For some reason I find his women very hard to like. His old or out-of-the-ordinary characters seem to be his best. I hope Mr. Baldacci finds his feet again because his other novels were very enjoyable to me.

2.0 von 5 Sternen Slow reading for a nonfisherperson, 27. Dezember 1998
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Blues (Taschenbuch)
I think that you have to be a fisherperson to enjoy this book. Hersey has written one of the best books I've ever read and one of the more boring ones. This was the boring one and HIROSHIMA was one of the best.
