It is the third time that I buy a book under new title but it is delivered in a very low quality like a used book. I have taken some pictures of the book and you can judge based on that if it is a new or used book.

Rezension bezieht sich auf: How to Lie with Statistics (Taschenbuch)
It is very shocking to see that such a book that is written almost 50 years ago is still valid and has so much to offer. Perhaps, It is because that there are still many hideous people who are lying using the classical and new statistical methods.

I hope somebody write a new version of the book and update its methods and examples with today's statistical tricks.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Just read selected parts of the book, 11. Mai 2014

It was my first Soros experience though I think it wasn't really a good book to start. In general, I knew him because of his controversial role in many financial panic events and also in some velvet revolutions in former Soviet Union states. However, I admire him personally because he is writing and sharing his ideas with others and let people judge him. We can mention dozens of other billionaires who prefer to hide themselves maybe because they don't want to be questioned for what they did or what they think.

I found the first part of the book boring but the next two parts worth reading. Especially the part that he is sharing his way of thinking to investment in the middle of crisis of 2008. I wish he wrote this part in more details and also updated it with the events of years after 2010.

Maybe this is a very good idea for him to write a book on it: As an investor, how he decided to invest in some asset classes and how they performed and how he manged to survive during the 2008 panic and years after that.

A very very educative book. It is like a complete political economy course. You can go through many events in the history of the world and decode their mysteries from financial and currency point of view. Then you'll find out how much our every day life is influenced by the global currency wars or currency manipulation.

I hope he updates his book with the events after 2011, the last edition year. Sure we are seeing other rounds of currency wars going on especially from the beginning of 2014 with speculation over tapering and hiking interest rate by Fed under Yellen management.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A book that must be read by Iranians and Americans, 16. April 2014
Verifizierter Kauf(Was ist das?)
As an Iranian, I was always asking myself that why Iran and US relation ended up to such a disastrous situation and I think, when you read the book, you'll have some ideas about why this happened. Perhaps three elements caused this:

First American politicians that as a superpower, they think they know the best of everything however this is not true and in many cases, they take actions based on simplified realities and their horrible mistakes make great catastrophes for many people especially American people at the end. Part of what happened in relation to Iran was exactly their fault and short-sighted policies.

Second, stubborn and supper ambitious Shah that didn't know his place and real power in the game and his dictatorship and faulty decisions caused lots of troubles for Iranians.

Third, mysterious and opportunist Saudis that in one hand supported and financed fundamentalists in the world and on the other hand, they established a very close and good relation with US as an ally. At least, they've shown that they have learnt good lessons from the fate of Shah of Iran and they tried not to destroy their own position as an ally of USA.

No matter how the conflict between Iran and USA was generated and who was responsible, it seems the winner was Saudis and the biggest losers were people of Iran and America. These days, Iran and USA are trying to resolve decades of mistrust and you see Saudi's opposition overtly to the progress of negotiations. This clearly shows how they will find themselves in trouble if Iran and USA start a new and close relation and sure the book provide you the answer why Saudis are worry about this.

If you are Iranian or American and want to see some facts behind the scene, read this very well-written and informative book.

Unbelievably well researched and well written book about black box of banks before financial crisis of 2008. I can compare it with the book "when genius failed" in terms of author's attention to details and technical issues.
However, if you like to fully take advantage of the book, you need to have basic quantitative knowledge of financial products and Risk Management methods. Otherwise you wont understand very well the story and its beauty.

Great book! When I started reading, I couldn't put it down untill I finished. When you read it, it is as if you are reviewing the most important concepts in finance world and get to know the origin of these theories and you will be surprised how much it can change your views about some previous simplified perceptions and deepen your underestanding.

One suggestion: dont touch the book if you dont have basic knowledge of option pricing and statistics.
