1.0 von 5 Sternen WOW, this was NOT what I was expecting!, 30. Juni 2000
After I heard that a new book was coming out that would continue the adventures of Willow, I was so excited! I was looking forward to seeing the characters I loved so much in action again, with the same fun and adventurous tone that the movie and its novelization presented prevailing. If that is what you are expecting as well, do NOT pick this book up, it will burn your hands. Nearly all my favorite characters were gone after the first chapter, without a satisfactory explanation (and I've read all 3 books, there never is a satisfactory explanation). The characters who do remain are warped into virtually unrecognizable shells of what they once were, and the world they inhabit is so bleak and depressing it made me long for the good old days of Bavmorda! To add insult to injury, the writing style was convoluted and drawn out, and the action was disappointing. Preserve your good memories of Willow--don't ruin them with this novel!

4.0 von 5 Sternen Wonderful Fantasy Read, 30. Juni 2000
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Stardust (Taschenbuch)
In general, I tend to be easily annoyed with fantasy books. This book was a wonderful exemption. It was so original and combined humor, creativity and wonderful characterizations seamlessly. This book offers all the best elements of fantasy: colorful characters, exotic settings, and exiting plot twists. The only thing that troubled me about the book was how some parts were so involving and others seemed to drag a little. A very minor complaint, and I'm sure many people could care less about it, but hey, that's how I felt. Overall, it was a very good book, and definitely worth reading.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Much more enjoyable than the movie, 30. Juni 2000
Rezension bezieht sich auf: The Princess Bride (Gebundene Ausgabe)
Now, don't get me wrong, I love the movie version of this novel, but there is so much humor an wit in the novel that can't be translated in the movie! The way Goldman treats his story as an update of a forgotten classic is so clever, and I loved the way he kept "interrupting" the text to chip in his opinion. I especially like the way the characters are developed more deeply in the novel, and how there are aspects of Buttercup and Westley's relationship that aren't presented in the movie. I think that any age could enjoy this story, although some younger readers might have problems discerning the story from the "editor's comments". This is a great book to read out loud, since it is so enjoyable for all involved.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Romantic, quick and suspenseful, 30. Juni 2000
I thought this novel offered an interesting look at how passion and spontaneity can develop into confusion and regret. The characters are well developed and have wonderful interactions with each other, especially Mary (the protagonist) and Rowley (the "unsavory" character). It is an enjoyable quick read, and the romance is set well against the suspenseful atmosphere.

1.0 von 5 Sternen This book's only redeeming function is as a paperweight, 16. Mai 2000
This book was awful. A-W-F-U-L! I am a huge Star Wars fan, and I have enjoyed many of the recent novels that continue the storyline, but this book is completely wretched. The "plot" is misguided and uninteresting, the characters are made into bland, emotionless automatons...I cannot stress enough how boring this book was. I still cannot believe I had the strength to finish it. Finishing this book might be the bravest thing I've ever done...

5.0 von 5 Sternen Wow, I'm the First?, 2. Mai 2000
I'm shocked no one has yet written their thoughts on this book, I was looking foward to reading them! I loved this book. Since I'm a pre-med major I figured I would like it when I started it, but I did not expect that I would be unable to put it down! It sucked me in from the frst page and I just could not put it down! I was reading it during my physics class, that's how much I loved it. The author really shows the humanity behind medicine and does an excellent job of recounting her experiences "becoming a pediatrician". Every account of every patient fascinated me, and made me even more convinced that I'm not just insane for being pre-med. This book really gave me something to look foward to. If you are interested in health sciences, I strongly encourage you to read this book, it's wonderful!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Simply wonderful!, 16. Januar 2000

I cannot express in words how much I loved this novel! Austen's wry humor and perceptiveness shine through in all her characters. I know it sounds cheesy, but I still do get excited over whether Elizabeth and Darcy will ever see eye to eye. Elizabeth is one of the strongest and most admirable female characters in literature, the book is worth it just for her!
