Desperation
Desperation
von Stephen King
  Taschenbuch

5.0 von 5 Sternen Kings Best, IMHO, 22. April 2000
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Desperation (Taschenbuch)
I've been a Stephen King fan for, like, FOREVER and have virtually read 'em all. This is the absolute top, so far, OMHO. I had to keep shutting the book to digest the horror and calm down before continuing. Amazing twists and turns. It just doesn't get better (or scarier).

5.0 von 5 Sternen this book is a gift....., 22. April 2000
Rezension bezieht sich auf: The Gift of Fear (Taschenbuch)
Although I first read this several years ago (and recently re-read) it remains in my TOP TEN FAVORITES of all time. Cannot recommend enough. I've bought this for many friends and family, and all have the same reaction. Worth re-reading every year. Thank you Gavin de Becker for writing this most important book.

Cod: A Biography of the Fish that Changed the World

5.0 von 5 Sternen excellent read......, 22. April 2000
I was initially very amused to come across this small book whilst looking for vacation books for my Maine sailing trip last year. This seemed the perfect choice, and was, indeed. It is at times light and funny. It is very informative and the history is fascinating. But the overall conservation message is so important. Highly recommended.

Song for the Blue Ocean: Encounters Along the World's Coasts and Beneath the Seas
von Carl Safina
  Gebundene Ausgabe

5.0 von 5 Sternen The Last Buffalo..., 22. April 2000
This is a wonderful, informative, heartbreaking book. I can't recommend it enough. Dr. Carl Safina sounds like an incredible person. I recommend that everyone join the Living Oceans Program of the National Audubon Society before it really is too late (if it isn't already). I wish I knew what I could do to help save fish.

4.0 von 5 Sternen SO much better than I expected...., 22. April 2000
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Pink Slip (Gebundene Ausgabe)
I picked up this book because I needed a light, fluffy, 'pink' read. It was quite entertaining, as promised, but also alot more compelling and moving than I ever expected. Touches on alot of very interesting subplots. Slightly unbelievable? Perhaps. But it really worked for me, and I'm not catholic or italian. I definitely recommend this book.

This book was really excellent. I'm well past high school, but it really got to me. If there are any 'book clubs' in NYC that are scheduling this book, please let me know!

The Perfect Storm: A True Story of Men Against the Sea: A True Story of a Man Against the Sea
The Perfect Storm: A True Story of Men Against the Sea: A True Story of a Man Against the Sea
von Sebastian Junger
  Gebundene Ausgabe
Preis: EUR 16,44

5.0 von 5 Sternen Read this book - you'll be "blown away", 11. April 1999
I read this book when it first came out, but am just getting around to "reviewing" it now. I am actually rereading it right now. I was "blown away" the first time, and am enjoying it even more the 2nd time because I am now alot more knowledgeable about the subject matter. I thought that Mr. Junger had a perfect balance between telling the story of one boat, the Andrea Gail, the fishing industry, then and now, and the science/physics of storms, waves, and drowning. I've always been fascinated by these subjects, and, although I'm pretty level-headed and don't believe in "past lives", if I DID - I would suspect that I died at sea - perhaps a sailor, perhaps a whale. This book made me think alot about fish. I personally don't eat fish, but there is no reason for this - just a finicky childhood thing that I never outgrew. I do eat meat. However, I don't understand how vegetarians can justify eating fish but not meat (other than on grounds that fish is healthier for you). In terms of both cruelty to animals and environmental impact, I think that eating fish is FAR WORSE than eating meat. Cows are not in danger of extinction, and I think that fish suffer far more when they are slaughtered. Anyway - bravo Mr. Junger - your next book is eagerly anticipated by this reader.

Betrayals (Blending)
Betrayals (Blending)
von Sharon Green
  Taschenbuch

3.0 von 5 Sternen when, book 5 ? (Prophesies), 28. März 1999
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Betrayals (Blending) (Taschenbuch)
The Blending series is the first Sharon Green I've read. Really enjoyed it, though I'd say that book 3 (Challenges) was my favorite. I still like Kambil, even though he's grown more villainous. Does anyone know when Book 5 is supposed to be published? I certainly do hope all the loose ends are tied up (but I know it's already written). Does Avon plan to reprint any other Sharon Green books?

The Loop (Roman)
The Loop (Roman)
von Nicholas Evans
  Gebundene Ausgabe
Preis: EUR 18,99

5.0 von 5 Sternen can't get it out of my head....., 16. November 1998
Rezension bezieht sich auf: The Loop (Roman) (Gebundene Ausgabe)
I liked the Horse Whisperer (liked movie even better than book) but I found The Loop to be even more moving (not that any comparisions are necessary). Have been to Montana and Yellowstone twice, already somewhat interested in wolves. Now, I feel an obsession coming on. I would caution hard-core animal-lovers against the book, because the account of the mistreatment of wolves, then and now, is beyond heartbreaking.

The Target (Fbi Thriller)
The Target (Fbi Thriller)

1.0 von 5 Sternen the MYSTERY is how this book ever got published !!!, 28. Juni 1998
Rezension bezieht sich auf: The Target (Fbi Thriller) (Gebundene Ausgabe)
"The Maze" was great, "The Cove" was OK. "The Target" is atrocious. Not worth the time it takes to read the inside cover. The one word that comes to mind in describing the author of this book is LAZY. The plot makes no sense whatsoever. Luckily I got this from the library instead of buying it, but I still feel ripped off!
