5.0 von 5 Sternen A remarkable testament and highly recommended reading., 19. September 2000
Mother Teresa Of Calcutta always taught about kindness and love as she worked in the slums or met with the famous and influential of the world. This inspiring anthology of her simple, profound, thought-provoking stories (compiled by Edward Le Joly and Jaya Chaliha) is simply, beautifully, appropriately illustrated with watercolors by Allan Drummond. The stories include the one of the mother who shared her last grains of rice with the family next door; the children who gave up their prize money to help the orphanage in Calcutta; and many others illustrating Mother Teresa's heartfelt and unwavering belief that even the smallest acts of kindness make the world a better place for everyone. Stories Told By Mother Teresa is a remarkable testament of a remarkable woman and enthusiastically recommended reading for children of all ages (and their parents!).

The text is in rhyme and tells the comical story of Maximilian the baker and his attempt to become a magician. Too impatient to read the magic book that accompanied his magic hat, Max's magic result sin mixed up and silly spells. During his first school visit Max learns that real magic is simply making others laugh. Written for young readers ages 6 to 9, Maximilian The Great is very nicely illustrated by Adam Corsi. A unique aspect is the provision of a special section of tips for the young reader on writing and illustrating, with information on how they can submit their own work in a contest for publication.

When a ship from England becomes trapped in the ice in theFarNorth and forced to stay through a long and dark winter, young David is the only person to leave the ship to follow the barking of foxes. Following the foxes into a glittering darkness, David loses his way and is in danger of dying of the cold. A wise man suddenly appears at the top of the hill, offers David safety, the warmth of fire, and the mystery of secrets and dreams. When David's father finds his lost son, David is asleep by the fire, sheltered by an Inukshuk (a stack of stones in the rough outline shape of a man). Dreamstones is a captivating picturebook story by Maxine Trottier written for young readers ages 4 to 8, and that is wonderfully illustrated by the museum quality artwork of Stella East.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A lively, entertaining story., 19. September 2000
The soccer mom of this story was an ordinary mother until she attended her son's first match with the Atomic Pickles: there she turned into an alien who became an embarrassment at games. Readers with good reading skills will relish this lively story of a wild mother perhaps too supportive of her son.

But deep down inside herself, Gloria finds the power to believe in herself when no one else does and meets a child born in poverty who turns out to be the son of God. Because she can see beyond appearances, Gloria not only brings the good news to the poor, she also announces that it is the people of poverty who are also God's own children. Elwood And The Witch is a rollicking story of enchantment by Nicholas Heller which is superbly illustrated by Jos. A.
