Build Your Own PC
Build Your Own PC

4.0 von 5 Sternen needs more on the shopping of parts, and troubleshooting, 3. Juli 2000
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Build Your Own PC (Taschenbuch)
I am sure this is a great show by example book. with just enough knowledge mentioned, this book simplifies the task of building a PC. And quite amazingly, it is rather up to date. However, I only wish the author could spare a little ink on how to purchase different parts. After all, assembling all the parts together is not difficult at all, because it is no more than finding the right plugs and connect them (from our point of view, there is very little difference between a CD-ROM and a DVD-ROM). It is the hunting for the parts that get me (and probably a lot of other readers as well). Also the book goes something like this, "it seems that the BIOS does recognize the CPU with correct speed... excellent, now let's get it over with..." But what if something does go wrong? what if there is a hardware conflict, or what if some parts are defective? How would you tell which part is bad, and what the solution would be? Even a loose connection in the video card could seem to be a disaster to a beginner simply because he/she does not have the experiences to judge what and where the problems occur.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Now I know what a boot camp is like!, 3. Juli 2000
This book is very hard to be rated. It does discuss and encourage the reader to explore a lot of useful details in VB. among all the VB books I have read, for example, this one is the best in explaining and showing the scoping rules. also the exercises after each chapter are pretty good. However, this book's quality is poor. When I was reading the book, thank goodness I already knew VB, otherwise, I would pull off all my hair in order to make some sense out of the book. A lot of information was wrong, a lot of pictures were misplaced and some exercises left unanswered. Maybe that is the whole idea of "bootcamp." After all, this book would be an excellent resource for experienced VB programmers, however, it would be a nightmare for those who try to learn VB from this book.

ASP in a Nutshell: A Desktop Quick Reference (Nutshell Handbook)
ASP in a Nutshell: A Desktop Quick Reference (Nutshell Handbook)
von Keyton A Weissinger
  Taschenbuch

4.0 von 5 Sternen not for beginners, 2. Juni 2000
I bought this book and tried to learn ASP. However, I found that the book is not suitable for beginners like me. It briefly talks about how to make a simple ASP and then dives into the object models. I am sure the anatomy of the object models is very complete and concise, however, I wish it could spend more chapters on how to create more practical ASP's and spend more time explaining the purpose and use of the objects.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Excellent!, 2. Juni 2000
This is the companion book for HTML and Dynamic HTML. Just like those two books, this is another excellent book. If you want to learn JavaScript, don't miss this book.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Excellent book, 2. Juni 2000
I have read some of the reviews written by some not-so-satisfied readers and I do see their point of view. However, this book is intended for solid HTML, and topics such as CSS belong to another book - Dynamic HTML the definitive reference, which is also an excellent book. I have been working with HTML for quite a few years and this book is my life saver.

5.0 von 5 Sternen excellent!, 2. Juni 2000
The title is a little misleading -- it is MORE than just a reference book, it actually teaches how to create DHTML pages. Whether you are a novice or a veteran in web page development, this is the book for you. In addition to the book, the online support is also very good. Many errors in the book are corrected.

2.0 von 5 Sternen very disappointing, 30. Mai 2000
Rezension bezieht sich auf: VBScript Sourcebook (Taschenbuch)
The book is actually about how to program in VB for beginners, and the contents about the actual web development aspects are next to none. Examples do not work; online support is poor for that the author changed the online examples without changing the downloadable codes. Not worth buying at all.
