2006 erschien bereits das Debut Album "Under The Fog". Damals war die die musikalische Ausrichtung noch eher in die Ska/Pop/Anti-Folk Richtung, obwohl die Punk Attitude immer mitschwang. Textlich gab man sich politisch (links natürlich...) und schreckte auch vor persönlichen Tönen nicht zurück.
Texte wie in "The Sound Of Revolt" liessen nichts zu wünschen übrig:
"In my back pocket there´s a catapult
To smash the windows with the sound of revolt
I may not be Guy Fawkes
But I´ll always be a thorn in their paws"
Auch klare Ansagen gegen den rechten Pöbel gab es schon zu verzeichnen:
"They come to take away my liberties
But round here we don´t need no stinking BNP (British National Party)"
Insgesamt noch ein durchwachsenes, aber keinesfalls schlechtes Album.
2008 erschien dann auf dem Major Label "Island Records" die CD "Save The World - Get The Girl"
Die erste Single ("My Boulder"), die das Album auch eröffnet, lies eine Entpolitisierung beim Major befürchten, kam sie doch mit Zeilen daher wie: "You can lean on me
Cry on my shoulder
If I´m Obelix
You are my boulder"
Aber, die Befürchtungen waren unbegründet! Weiterhin gab es, wie die Band es beschreibt, "soulful ska with raw folk and a punk rock attitude". Passt ganz gut, zumal die "Punk Rock Attitude" nun auch musikalisch verstärkt zum Tragen kommt.
Und mit "The Streets Are Ours" haben THE KING BLUES eine absolut großartige Hymne über Demos geschrieben:
"We stood in front of tanks at Tiananmen Square
From Berlin to Chiapas we are everywhere

You can hear us shout "The streets are ours!"

Großartig auch die Outsider Hymne "The Schemers, The Scroungers And The Rats", sowie das bitterböse "Let´s Hang The Landlord" und das wirklich geniale "What If Punk Never Happened"...ein wirklich geiles Album, trotz Major Label!
Zwischendurch erschien noch die, eher ruhige, Non-Album Maxi CD "Holiday", diesmal wieder ohne Major Label...die Band war wohl nicht erfolgreich genug...

2011 kam dann das neueste Album "Punk & Poetry". Der Politikanteil und der Punkeinfluss wurden wiederum erhöht. Songs wie "We Are F*cking Angry" und "Set The World On Fire" sprechen da eine klare Sprache! Aber auch der Ska/Reggae kommt weiterhin zu seinem Recht! Bestes Beispiel ist "The Future Is Not What It Used To Be"...

Ich habe die CDs in UK geordert...kommen alle ziemlich günstig, so um die 5-7 Pfund plus Versand. Momentan läuft THE KING BLUES hier rauf und runter. Für mich eine der Neuentdeckungen des Jahres! Jetzt noch ein Konzi von denen (am liebsten im Düsseldorfer AK47!) und der Sommer ist gerettet!
Abgesehen davon, dass Menschen die Zeilen wie
"Maybe I´ll never shoot a rabbit
Perhaps I´ll never drink champagne
But that´s alright with me
I prefer CIDER anyway"
singen, keine schlechten Menschen sein können...zumal bei dem coolen Akzent... ;-))
