The Dancing Boy

After losing a foot in Afghanistan, ex-soldier, Tom Gillet, returns to search for the young boy Shafiq, who saved his life by pulling him back from an IED. Aware Shafiq has been sold into child sex slavery as a dancing boy he plans to get the boy out of the country to safety. Close to achieving his aim Gillet is captured by Al Qaeda, taken to the Tora Bora caves on the Afghan/Pakistan border and forced under the threat of death to appear on video discrediting the coalition. Managing to escape, he begins a one man battle against the human trafficking of children into the UK with stunning results.
This book unashamedly gives an insight into just one country's guilt. A crime against humanity it exists in most other so called civilised countries and flourishes. It is a story of events from which people turn away as if it never existed.
Labelled a dark story, it serves to throw a light on the evil men do if left unchecked.
Available on Smashwords.

Thirty British troops a week are seeking medical help, toll of combat in Afghanistan.
A total of 3,021were diagnosed with `Adjustment disorder' between May 2010 and April 2012.
In places such as the US it is significantly higher.
Symptoms include self harming, drug abuse and anxiety attacks.
This is an account of a man, who to the detriment of his family and personal security refuses point blank to acknowledge these symptoms.

The Dancing Boy
Blinded by the heat, Tom Gillet, a British soldier is dragged back from an IED by Shafiq, a small Afghan boy. Luckily he lost a foot and not his life.
Shafiq wasn't so fortunate. His family was murdered by the Taliban as a warning to those who helped the coalition forces, and he was sold into a child trafficking ring as a dancing boy.
Discharged from the army and on the threshold of PTSD Gillet feels forced to return to Afghanistan to search for the boy in the hope of finding him a better life.
But what he encounters is a world full of shock, betrayal and lies.
Returning home to the UK he finds himself drawn into the horrors of something he never knew existed behind the closed doors of immigrant Britain.
Also available on Smashwords.

Dom meint:
Besides poetry and reflection, I'm also a pulp-action-fiction-comedy author.

Absolutely Done is a paranormal action adventure with spirituality, mythology and well timed witty humour.

In Absolutely Done, the protagonist, Absolute, a rebel Angel is recruited for the unenviable task of stepping into the Grim Reaper'€™s shoes for the time being. Absolute wants for nothing of this world, but the divine right of earning his keep as a competent enforcer of order in a world wracked by chaos & greed. Presented in frame after frame of action interspersed with humour, Absolute's adventures lead him to bloodshed, discovery & personal triumph. In his role as the Angel of Death, Absolute finds ample room for his mischievous wit while being thorough in his execution of duty. Absolutely Done is an adventure, action comedy that is as full of slam bang action as it is in terms of witty comic exchanges, wise cracking and spirituality with a nod to mythology. Light enough for the casual reader, engaging for audiences looking beyond flash and explosions and intense enough in action for those who wish to have a cinematic feel of brawn and adrenaline. The prequel of Absolutely Done is Second Chances (Prequel to 'Absolutely Done').

One of my favorites is "Life of Pi" by Yann Martel. I think it´s a brilliantly written novel and it is not a crime story, but nevertheless breathtaking. And I recently discovered Tana French, an Irish author of crime novels. She is not so much interested in creating cheap suspense, the crimes in her books are more starting points for the psychological effects and developments of the characters involved.

Dear authors, the title of this thread is "Looking for really good books - very well written or exceptional plot or inspiring or all in one... "

so if you find your book great that's not really an opinion I want - but a reader here should say to it to make it worth being posted....

sorry if I seem rude, but this is getting on my nerves!

Hi folks, two reads you might find interesting.

The Dancing Boy
With the Afghan heat blinding his sight with sweat, Tom Gillet, a young British soldier is dragged back from an IED by Shafiq, a small Afghan boy. Luckily he lost a foot and not his life.
Shafiq wasn't so fortunate. His family was murdered by the Taliban as a warning to those who helped the coalition forces, and he was sold into a child trafficking ring as a dancing boy.
Discharged from the army and on the threshold of PTSD Gillet, takes it upon himself to return to Afghanistan to search for the boy in the hope of finding him a better life.
But what he encounters is betrayal, lies, and the horrors of a world he never knew existed.

All In
Carla was young and beautiful and would do anything to be rich. Not much wrong with that, provided she could move on from a troubled past.
Her only way out was playing high stakes poker, using Fat Yang as her mentor. Trouble is, it wasn't a game of cards that Fat Yang had in mind for her. It was something far more sinister.
Fortunately for her, she discovers his intentions, and hatches a plan to turn the tables.

Sins of the Father

Bowen is an orphaned child in feudal England whose first appearance in this novel is having been bound hands and feet and whipped mercilessly by the monks in a monastery in an excess of bloodlust. He's realistically of an indeterminate age but no more than about seven years old and the monks are very sadistic. He's punished repeatedly for any number of minor and inconsequential infractions.

Aaron realizes that his compulsion to help Lucian comes from the fact that he's a direct descendant of Lucian's nephew, the child of the rape. This is why they bear a stunning resemblance to one another, including the black hair and amethyst eyes. Aaron also realizes that this is why he's the only one who can help Lucian and he offers his own life to take Lucian's place as the church they're in burns to the ground.

We (my husband and me) like the novel "Wisdom Hunter" by Randall Arthur very much (we even give it as a present to friends, time and again ;-)).
It describes the journey of a pastor to "real faith" - through many trials, losses - he looses almost everything ... mostly because of his "not being willing to understand and love the others". - This is really a pale explanation from me - referring to what wit and action it does provide you with. It is no "comfort zone book" ... you usually don't know what comes next ... and so it's interesting all the time (if you are interested in social aspects and their may-be development) - we really loved this novel.

Be blessed through reading.
