Keith Massey meint:
Former NSA Agent writes spy thrillers...

I know, I know--a lot of you are suspicious of me right from the start. I'm Keith Massey. I was an Arabic linguist at the NSA for four years after 9/11. I'm the author of Intermediate Arabic For Dummies by Wiley Publishing. I received the Global War on Terrorism Civilian Service Medal for service performed in Iraq in 2004.

I did an IAmA over at Reddit on my experiences at the NSA, but I would entertain questions here as well. I'm still under an obligation to never divulge classified information, but a lot of interesting details are unclassified. I even spent a bit of time inside GCHQ.

I wrote some novels following the adventures of Dr. Andrew Valquist, a semi-autobiographical character (like me, he's a half-Norwegian academic from Wisconsin who gets thrust into the world of espionage).

Amor Vincit Omnia: an Andrew Valquist Adventure follows Dr. Valquist on his first days at the NSA. He's in the second day of orientation when suddenly he's on a jet to Romania on a secretive mission.

A Place of Brightness tells the story of Dr. Valquist's upbringing, raised by a Romanian defector who trained him and his twin to go back to help overthrow the Communists. When the twins visit their mother's homeland years after the end of the Cold War, they are unexpectedly thrust into international intrigue.

In Saecula Saeculorum describes the adventure of four young people, unwittingly trained for a secret mission in a joint NSA/MI-6 project. They are sent back in time to ancient Rome to try and save the modern world.

Next Stop: Spanish is a combination spy thriller/language learning experience. John Valquist needs to learn Spanish and so accompanies his uncle Andrew on a trip to Spain. You learn incrementally along with John until a climax in which you and John will need to use what you've learned to save the day!

Thank you for your consideration.

Trained by a Navy Seal...betrayed by a billionaire...on the trail of a killer--maritime historian Jake Sands' peaceful life has been shaken to the core. Now he finds himself in the middle of the most dangerous kind of history of all--history in the making.

A retired luxury liner sits in the Port of Long Beach. A ruthless billionaire with a fatal plot for revenge buys her and sets in motion a horrific plan. When maritime history professor Jake Sands gives the ship's farewell speech, he spots a murderous face from his past, and finds himself sucked into a blood-thirsty plan for revenge that began in WWII with the development of a weapon so shocking that if unleashed will cause unimaginable horror for thousands, forcing Jake to resurrect skills few people know he has.

Customer comment:
"This book is a good read. I liked how the plot was linked together with historical facts. I am a huge history buff."

Hi everybody, this thread is great and I'm happy to see how many authors of English books there are in Germany! I've taken your book recommendations to heart - absolutely love reading - so I'm out for grabs.
I've been living here for years, studied English and German and work as a scientific translator. I wrote The Blacksmith, a novel, and put it out there because I wanted to share what I'd learned. I was very happy to see two readers have awarded it five stars and wrote beautiful reviews (in German) and that's what got me thinking that more people could find not only enjoyment, but also use in The Blacksmith.
The Blacksmith is first of a all a dark love story, but it's a great ride if you're in for a good thriller, mystery and a touch of fantasy that is actually possible. The central concepts are scientifically (medically and psychologically) grounded, so there's every reason to take them seriously. There's no going about the bush, the book delves deep into the drives, compulsions and darkest desires of man, so I have a moral duty of recommending the book only to readers over 18.
The story is told from Aura's perspective, a high school teacher whose life and marriage start to tumble down when she meets a new student, Ivan Grabianko. Ivan is a shady character who opens her to forbidden desires but also to a cruel reality, in which teachers are murdered violently and she herself is labeled as a target. Refusing to believe that Ivan is a cold blooded murderer, Aura obsessively seeks to discover the killer's identity and his secrets. She will find that there are none she doesn't share...
The range of themes and motifs in The Blacksmith is large and their purpose is that of revealing the true potential of the human being. The book is available in Kindle format at:
The Blacksmith (English Edition)

and will be show cased at the Frankfurter Buchmesse in October 2013, when we'll release it in paperback.
Enjoy!

All the best,
Ana

Adflatus. Season 1. Episode 2. Pine Motel available for FREE for 48 hours

“Adflatus” is a book within a book with interactive features. By the end of each episode one of the two main characters (bestselling writer Joseph Harmon and his character Mike Evans) faces a choice of what to do next and every reader will decide what option he would take thus creating his own pathway from pilot till the last episode.

You can also buy or get for free via Kindle Owners' Lending Library:
Adflatus. Season 1. Episode 1. Pilot.
Adflatus. Season 1. Episode 2. The Apartment (The second way to continue the story after the “Pilot”. Each of the two “Episode 2” could be optional – you can either choose only one version of Episode 2 and create your own unique version of the book or read them both and get to know everything that could’ve happened with the main characters and find out all their backstories. In the last case readers should skip Joseph’s chapters as they are the same in both variants.)

Hope you’ll find it entertaining

Yours,
Pavel Shishkoedov

Ms A. Scott meint:
My kindle book 'THE YEARS' is free for a couple of days and some of you in Germany have downloaded already. I was born and brought up in Derry, N. Ireland and a teenager there at the time of Bloody Sunday in 1972 although I was not on the march. I have used the novel form and ficitious characters as I think fiction often works better, and is more interesting, than non-fiction. I used hundreds of the transcripts from the Saville Inquiry as part of my research for the book. After the free promotion has ended you can read a large free sample. My other published e-book is 'Deaconsbank' and 'Eating Wolves' is still (just) in print.

Irretrievably Broken

Action-Thrillers:

The Recruiter
"Great book, very very good action novel. This is one of those escapist novels that is hard to put down. Hope the author will stay with this character."

The Assassin's Wife
"I love a good woman heroine especially when they can outmanoeuvre experienced operatives! Using just a few tricks she picked up as a drama teacher and a whole lot of grit and determination she manages to really shake things up for the bad guys. I found this novel fast paced and action packed with interesting glimpses into the spy world. Highly recommended."

The Golden Catch

Hi there,

I'm new to Amazon.de, and just had an amazing response by German readers to a promo. It was a real thrill to watch the download total for Germany rise and rise, and realise that there is such a fabulous group of avid readers eager for English-language books.
I don't know if this is the correct place to say it, but I just want to thank anyone who joined in. I'm hoping that you all enjoy it, and hoping that, one day, you could let me know what you think of it.

Best, and thanks again!
