A gripping thriller.
This is an amended version of a story relating the dark side of Afghanistan. It tells of innocent young boys sold by their parents to wealthy men to be trained as dancing boys.

The Dancing Boy
When Ex-soldier Tom Gillet, discovers that the kid who saved his life from an IED had been sold into sex slavery as a dancing boy, he returns to Afghanistan in the hope of finding him and offering him the chance of a better life. After surviving a series of staggering events, he is betrayed by those closest to him and handed over to Al Qaeda. Taken to the Tora Bora caves on the Afghan/Pakistan border he discovers his son has been taken by Islamic extremists in the UK. Threatened with the death of his son, and his own life by beheading, he is forced to appear on video to discredit the American and British governments.

Hi Samira,
did you try 'The long bridge' by Urszula Muskus?
I'm not much of a non-fiction fan but this book was just amazing!

It's not only a doctor's medical school education, residency training, and launching into practice that's so demanding, but what may be creeping into the professional's personal life along the way.
This is a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to become a doctor and what can happen once you get there.
Is it worth it?

A Physician's Plight: A Memoir - Professional Success ... Personal Disaster

Reviews:
"Klein demonstrates a toughness and determination that will leave you cheering for her.” M. Graff “Auntie M”, Author, Hyde, NC

“A Physician’s Plight” is an intriguing read that shouldn’t be missed for readers of personal memoirs.
Mary Cowper, Reviewer, The Midwest Book Review

"This book pulls no punches – nothing is sacred, nothing is left out! Anesthesiologist Katherine Klein, MD, gives us “the good, the bad, and the ugly” of her family-of-origin, her marital suffering, and her divorce, which landed her in Family Court and deprived her of participation in much of the lives of her young children."
Josh Grossman, MD, FACP, Col. (ret.), U.S. Army Medical Corps

After receiving invaluable comments from readers, this book has been re-edited. I have also added a new cover – thank you, Bryden.
If you like down-to-earth British thrillers with rough edges and full of black humour. Like your stories close to the bone? Like to call a spade a spade? You will like,

Hidden In Plain View
Gabriel Horn considers himself a London boy. But part ownership of the Back to Front Club, a gay bar in the centre of Soho, doesn’t somehow generate the same excitement as his previous employment, an active operative for MI5. When Sir Adrian Gold, Shadow Minister for Defence, offers him the opportunity to repay the government for the shoddy way they forced him out of Thames House, he accepts. His mission: to assassinate the leading Ministers of the British Government. Trouble is, when the body count begins to rise, those closest to him begin to die. Tracked by Scotland Yard and MI5, it isn’t until the CIA become involved that he finds himself trapped in a jigsaw of murder and treachery to avoid an international scandal capable of bringing the British Government to its knees.

Kindle-Kunde meint:
Hello Samira,
perhaps you know the series by Diana Gabaldon already? Beginning with "Outsider" or "Cross Stitch" (different title in the US) - there's about 7 or 8 books now in the series (it's been awhile, sorry, I don't know offhand exactly how many), with each one about 800 - 1000 pages. What strikes me most with this series by Diana Gabaldon is her exceptional style - it is vivid, it draws you in and is seasoned with just the right amount of humor and wit. I must admit, she has got me hooked - in fact, her style has almost ruined me for other authors!
Then there's Sue Monk Kidd "The Secret Life of Bees".
Staying with the bees, I loved "The Keeper of the Bees" by Gene Stratton-Porter. These two are a pleasure to read, and they've got the inspiring meaning.
If you're open for a really good, unusual thriller, try "The Watchers" by Dean Koontz (my favorite book by this author) - and you'll even find some meaning in it, I'm sure!
That's all for now. If I think of more, I'll be back.

How about some women's fiction with a time-travel twist? Rubies and Other Gems

Seeking relief from her unhappy family life, a woman travels back in time only to discover she may have put her future happiness at risk.

Rubies and Other Gems

Jaidis Shaw of Juniper Grove says, "Rubies and Other Gems is a wonderful treat for all women, especially those who know the stresses of married life. The characters are well written and the emotions will certainly tug at your heart-strings. If you are looking for a book that is an easy read, that will help take you away from the daily stresses, then grab your favorite drink, curl up in your favorite reading chair, and let your worries slip away as you share all of Lily's ups and downs on her road to self discovery."
