A new and unusual book is Daughter of the Oceans. It is about a girl who has been abused her entire life. The state takes her away and she gets adopted by foster parents who are mermaids. They try to hide that fact from her and they do what they can to convince her that she is worth being loved.
It is told out of two prospectives in first person. I've never seen that before.
Out of the prospective of the girl and Eric and guy who has fallen in love with her and who also has secrets of his own to hide for her. The psychological aspect is more in focus than the rest of the things that are going on around her.
It's kind of like twilight but no vampires. Instead 'the fish' as Eric likes to call them.

For those who enjoy political thrillers this book hits the ground running and doesn't let up.

Hidden In Plain View
Gabriel Horn loved to kill. It felt like a lovers kiss, sweet and satisfying in its embrace. But when Sir Adrian Gold offered him £40,000 to kill the Prime Minister and his deputy, he thought he was joking.
"Cost you one million pounds," he laughed.
Sir Adrian didn't hesitate. "Agreed."
Horn stared at him. He was deadly serious.

Colin Cotterill's Dr. Siri Paiboum novels are amongst my favorites if it comes to imaginative plots, I also love Nuri Vitachi's Mr. Wong novels. Both authors have created protagonists that are touchingly human, but able to solve intricated mysteries thanks to their special talents.

The Fanatic 29th & 30th March - FREE Kindle

Hunted and the Damned 31st March & 1st April - FREE Kindle

"Fantastically well written, with vivid descriptions, interesting characters and a plot that will keep you hooked and guessing right until the end, this is a must read".
(The Fanatic -Amazon UK 5 star review)

"Having read all three of R.J.Dillon's books in chronological order I must write my first ever book review(s).
They were all well written, in a style reminicient of John Le Carre and Len Dieghton.
I believe Mr Dillon writes from a position of knowledge about our governements more secretive security departments.
The booke were thoroughly entertaining, and I felt robbed every time I have had to put down my Kindle for more mundane chore
This is a sign of a very good book to me.
I hope the Mr Dillon can soon follow these superb thrillers with much more, and very soon.
I cannot recomend them enough". (Hunted and the Damned - Amazon UK 5 star review 21/6/12)

Midnight's Revolution - NEW collection of poetry

"This collection made me acutely feel the strength of love and loss. Shown in beautiful prose, this text was honest and thought-provoking and showed that in any span of life, one feels an array of emotions and deals with an array of happenings that alter and change a person's outlook on life. A powerful read..." Goodreads review

Coming Home

London, Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Coming Home (Kindle Edition)
This is a powerful and outstanding novel about the Great War.

Roy Stolworthy has written a story that will stand alongside classics like ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT. It is a brutally honest portrayal of life in the rat-infested, bog-like trenches and the mindless slaughter of millions of brave, courageous soldiers commanded by largely incompetent aristocratic officers who were sometimes shot by their own men.

Thomas Elkin is a fifteen-year-old farm boy who switches identity with his recently conscripted brother whom he has accidentally killed. Elkin disposes of his brother in a rather grim fashion and heads off to war determined to die a glorious death in battle rather than face the hangman's noose in order to atone for his sins.

The author writes vividly and descriptively about the war and the terrible conditions the soldiers faced. Despite a few minor editing glitches the story is effectively told and is gripping for the reader. He brings war to life with its stench and raw brutality. It might be too much for some readers, but it is a tale worth reading. It puts into perspective the sacrifices our grandfathers and great grandfathers made. I know it made me feel proud of my grandfather who fought for the British army in "the war to end all wars".

I became familiar with the author through another of his books, The Dancing Boy, a five-star tale of Afghanistan, and it is amazing that this one was his first novel. Mr. Stolworthy sets a standard hard to beat. The ending is a twist and was a complete surprise to how I thought it would end.

I can't really call this book enjoyable but it is a must read for anyone who wants to know and truly understand what life in war is really like. Truly a masterpiece!

Hi, I have reduced all my books to E1.17 (I entered £0.99 but Amazon popped up with £1.02!!) Each received great reviews so maybe you will give them a try, thank you.

The dark side of Afghanistan you didn't know about.
The Dancing Boy
When Ex-soldier Tom Gillet discovered that the kid who saved his life from an IED had been sold into sex slavery as a dancing boy, he returned to Afghanistan to search for him. Captured by Al Qaeda he is taken to the Tora Bora caves on the Afghan/Pakistan border. Under threat of death by beheading he is forced to appear on video discrediting the coalition. Then a sudden twist triggers off a startling sequence of events.

Greed is good.
All In
Driven by the lure of big money Carla uses her charms and skill at the poker table. Trouble is, she doesn't like to lose, and those who posed a threat meet an untimely death. But what she didn't know was that her mentor, Fat Yang, has something far more dangerous than a game of cards in mind for her.

A 5* thriller full of twists and turns that hits the ground running and doesn't let up.

Coming Home
Thomas Elkin was fifteen years old when he signed up as sniper in World War One. His intention wasn't to fight for king and country. His was to die an honourable death and cheat the hangman's noose for causing the death of his recently conscripted brother. But death walks a crooked path.

Based on a true story of the 19th century Victorian era, this book under the title of 'The Black kid Of Windsor Castle has a fascinating tale of truth hidden for a century. A Black boy who was orphaned when his father, King Theodore was killed by the British Army in 1868 and brought up by the British government that has allocated 700 pounds per year for his schooling and shelter in London was befriended by Queen Victoria who advised him to join the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst when he turned eighteen. His close relationship with the queen and the royal court has been kept secret for years for some reason. Don't miss this book. You would definitely enjoy it. I finished the book in three days without any break.

When his best friend Freddy convinces him to attend a school fundraiser he reluctantly agrees and volunteers to be hypnotized by a famed illusionist named The Great Standeval. But, during the hypnosis, things go horribly wrong and Standeval mysteriously disappears.

Later, Charlie begins to suspect that something isn't right. During the hypnotism he was made to believe he was an alien. Once he begins to have disturbing visions and unimaginable things start to happen, he begins to wonder if it could really be true. Could he really be an alien from a distant planet that was destroyed years ago? Things take an unexpected turn as Charlie and his close friends are kidnapped and a secret is revealed that will change the course of human history.

Charlie has his doubts however, and embarks on a roller coaster ride of emotions while he struggles with the idea that so much could rest on his young shoulders. To make matters worse, he struggles with his feelings for his childhood crush Allison along with an uncontrollable desire for the irresistible Kara, a girl with whom he shares a unique bond.

With the help of new friends like Nick, an arrogant and cocky jock, and Michael, the quiet, reserved one with a penchant for fire, he will learn to stand up and fight for the things he believes in and the people he holds dear. Danger lurks around every corner. It will take the combined efforts of them all to prevent the end of the human race and the fall of planet Earth.

Hi Samira

I've just finished two books by Jane Gardam - OLD FILTH and THE MAN IN THE WOODEN HAT. I cannot priase them enough. The first is about an international lawyer (Filth stands for 'failed in London try Hong Kong'). Filth is a Raj orphan.
He marries Betty. The first books is mainly about Filth , from his childhood until his old age. The second about his wife, Betty, and tells her story . It's gently told, but very intense and moving. Giving insight into the inner lives of a couple
who only seem complacent and dull. The time span is from around the 1920s to the current decade.

Hello everyone. Why not treat yourself by immersing your mind in stories set in the humid heat of the West African coast or the dry heat of the northern deserts. I have books on Kindle (and paperback except the novellas) they're all set in West Africa during the turbulent sixties and have great reviews.

The Up-Country Man Memoir 180k words. A personal account of the first one hundred days trapped inside secessionist Biafra (Nigerian Civil War). Second Edition.

The Last Bature (Batuuree) Fiction 102k words. The last white police officer in a failing ex-British colony faces many threats and situations when he tries to avert a national catastrophe.

Tribal Gathering Short stories 104k words. Greed, jealousy and ignorance are just some of the subjects in eight stand-alone stories with a twist.

The Mine My latest book. Fiction. 110k words. A British "diplomat" and a senior African police officer investigate a mass kidnapping, which leads to much more in a failing ex-British colony. A thriller/adventure story set in a background of secession, civil war and breathtaking corruption.

I have extracted three of the stories from Tribal Gathering as tasters, available at 89c each.
Boom Town A man steals a fortune under cover of war. 21k words
Hot Metal Strange goings-on in the forest. 16k words
Juju-Men Delivering a parcel to the Freemasons' Lodge brings death and destruction to the region. 14k words.

Hi Samira,

I know your post is a couple of years old, but allow me to recommend The Blacksmith. I wouldn't dare do so if it hadn't gotten real good reviews from readers on Amazon.de, stating that the plot as well as the meaning itself has inspired them and brought them enjoyment. The book is first of all a dark love story, but also a good thriller, worthwhile mystery and grounded fantasy (based on true medical and psychological concepts) and has been preceded by serious research.
I don't know how old you are, but allow me to only recommend it if you're over 18, since the book deals with some of the darkest drives of man.
The book is available in Kindle format at:
(This is Amazon.com, the reviews are written on Amazon.de. Let me know if you'd like me to translate them for you, I'd be glad to)
