BookWeek meint:
****
A nonfiction, compelling story:

It's not only a doctor's medical school education, residency training, and launching into practice that's so demanding, but what may be creeping into the professional's personal life along the way.
This is a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to become a doctor and what can happen once you get there.
Is it worth it?

A Physician's Plight: A Memoir - Professional Success ... Personal Disaster
**********

Reviews:
"Klein demonstrates a toughness and determination that will leave you cheering for her.” M. Graff “Auntie M”, Author, Hyde, NC

“A Physician’s Plight” is an intriguing read that shouldn’t be missed for readers of personal memoirs.
Mary Cowper, Reviewer, The Midwest Book Review

"This book pulls no punches – nothing is sacred, nothing is left out! Anesthesiologist Katherine Klein, MD, gives us “the good, the bad, and the ugly” of her family-of-origin, her marital suffering, and her divorce, which landed her in Family Court and deprived her of participation in much of the lives of her young children."
Josh Grossman, MD, FACP, Col. (ret.), U.S. Army Medical Corps

'Extremely loud and Incredibly Close' habe ich auch gelesen; ebenso 'Angela's Ashes'. Klar, dass ich mir dann auch 'Cold Mountain' ansehen werde.

Das ist wirklich ein faszinierendes Buch, aber es wirkt auch ein wenig verstörend - bis heute. Ich kann gar nicht erklären, was mir an dem Buch unheimlich ist!

Christmas always comes with a good book. And a good read is always a good time spent. Try 'The Board Members" by DeRege Lemma and 'The Shop Keeper' by James D. Best. They're both good and matured mystery novels.

I second Jodi Picoult! Great reads, and you really connect with her writing but make sure you are aware that all of her novels are extremely intense.

The Phillip Pullman series, the shadow in the north, ruby in the smoke, tiger in the well are all fantastic reads!

Happy Reading!

If you look for a different book, try this one, I just read it and was quite surprised:

Attitude

Philosophical, but still clear and easy to read. Good clean reading for a change to all the trash around. It was inspiring for me and animates to think a little bit deeper.

Hi Samira: I greatly enjoyed a series of Books by Orson Scott card: 'seventh son' and unusual twist on traditional fantasy that focuses on a rewriting of American history. Also a very unusual read that was well written: 'The End of Mr Y' by Scarlett Thomas about a cursed book. I've read her other books and really enjoyed them too. You may like to take a look at my book Fuel to the Fire recently rated five stars by a top reviewer with glowing feedback. Hope you check out some of my suggestions.

Without a doubt, this was the best book I read in 2012 - and I reckon I read at least 40 books in 2012!!

First publication by the Author and a truly remarkable talent for creating characters, plots and environments. This was a book that leaves a lasting impression. I wonder, where did the author get the inspiration for this story? First World War, in all its brutal reality and it combines some horrific scenes with scenes of tenderness and humour as well as the downright surprising. Often you had to stop and read the paragraph again, asking yourself, "did that just happen?".

I read the authors blog and what really surprises me is the difficulty he had in attracting a publisher. Rejection letters and a frustrated deal and he ended up publishing it on Amazon and then attracted a publisher.

This book has excellent reviews. Why could the publishers not see the potential of this book? Moral of the story - as the author found out, you can cut out the middleman.

First class effort, a brilliant story - if you haven't read it: put it on your next to read list.

These are my recommendations: SIERRA by MELVYN HOWARD (2 vol - new release) and WOODFIELD, a gated community by BEV GOODMAN. First one is fantasy, beautifully written and draws you in. Second is chic lit with a twist. Enjoy.

Please allow me to introduce my new thriller.

Hidden In Plain View
Gabriel Horn loved to kill. It felt like a lovers kiss, sweet and satisfying in its embrace. But when Sir Adrian Gold, the shadow Minister for Defence offered him £40,000 to kill the British PM and his deputy he thought it was joke.
"No chance, cost you a cool million pounds," he laughed.
Sir Adrian never hesitated. "Agreed."
Horn stared at him. He was deadly serious.

A gripping story that hits the floor running and never lets up.
