Free May 30 & 31, 2013, "Reluctant Medium" from Amazon.

Once you have opened the gates of hell, there is no return.

All Rachel Blackstone wants is to talk with her father; solve the mystery of how he died. Using a Native American ceremony given to her by a shaman, she summons him in this contemporary paranormal fantasy/mystery. Instead, a soul intent on revenge slips through and threatens people she loves. Now the Santa Fe, New Mexico reporter must follow the evil spirit, uncover its purpose and send it back. The shape-shifter has horrific powers. Rachel is tormented by what she has unleashed. There's more. She's seeing dead people; which frankly give her the creeps. Some are helpful; others lead her away from the truth. One spirit, a lone wolf, seems to have an uncertain allegiance. What she, and friend Chloe, uncover is an earthly scam involving both the quick and the dead. Rachel must play a dangerous game of supernatural treasure hunt to stop the ruthless ghost. To survive, she must discover her own powers during a climatic storm of earth, wind and fire. To fail is to die.

Contains: mild horror effects, profanity, humor.

There are many tales that we all know, tales that echo down from the past. Echoes of Elder Times are tales that have the flavor you might expect from old legends and myths. Told in a more modern way these stories can stand alone or be read together. From the end of the world to tales of heroes and monsters and just which is which these are stories you can read while waiting for your turn in line or at the doctors, at the coffee shop or on the bus. Read them and remember worlds they might have existed once before now.

Ice (Echoes of Elder Times 1)
The Dream Wish (Echoes of Elder Times 2)
Death Is The Answer (Echoes of Elder Times 3)

This intriguing British political thriller hits the ground running. With never a dull moment and many vividly descriptive passages, it's well paced with gradually mounting tension. The characters are well developed with some pricelessly witty dialogue and jet-black bawdy humour.

Gabriel Horn is portrayed as a hard and ruthless anti-hero who shows no remorse at killing people in order to survive in the world in which he lives. But occasionally, we catch glimpses of the soft and tender underbelly that he's afraid to show, in case his many enemies learn of his vulnerabilities. As a hired assassin, he agrees to kill the Prime-Minister and his deputy, but as the body count starts mounting, the hunter becomes the hunted. He finds himself and those few souls he actually cares about in terrible danger. To say more would spoil the totally unexpected ending. This really is a five star bargain, enjoy!

An invitation to translate ancient inscriptions near Pompeii is a dream for classics professor Winnie Price. Although the dig is for a TV program instead of a scholarly project, it's a way to carry on the legacy of her archaeologist father, who died on their last trip to Italy.

Then her department chairman horns his way in on the gig. The show host is more sensationalist than scientist. Her cocky assistant Chaz keeps flirting with her -- and getting harder to resist. A looter’s hole appears at the dig site. Worst of all, it turns out someone forged the referral letter that got her on the show, and the prime suspect is her -- or Chaz.

Add to the mix a reenactment of pagan rites spiced up with a psychoactive homebrew, and Winnie has a lot more to interpret than Latin.

The Five-Day Dig

Thank you for considering my books!

Gabriel Horn loved to kill, to watch the light slip from his victim's eyes. It felt like a lovers kiss, sweet and satisfying in its embrace.
He thought Sir Adrian Gold was joking when he offered him £40,000 to kill the Prime Minister and his deputy.
"Cost you one million pounds," he laughed.
Sir Adrian didn't hesitate. "Agreed."
Horn stared at him. He was deadly serious.

When 15 year old Cassandra Miller is taken away from her abusive father, she is placed in the care of a family who has many secrets to hide, among them the fact that they are Merpeople with a long history of luring humans into the water to kill them.

Everything appears to be perfect but she sees telltale signs that things may be too good to be true.

Her new family, the Morgans, are obsessed with water but forbid her to go near it. Water is everywhere she looks, surrounding her. Lake Superior is her new backyard and aquariums make up the inside walls of her new house. Oddly enough they seem to be having fish everyday for lunch.

The Sons of Thor, a group of five young men, have sworn to protect humankind with their lightning bolts. They have an understanding with the Morgans, that they will leave them alone as long as they leave humans alone.

Now that the Morgans have taken a human into their home to raise as their daughter, the agreement is broken.

Eric, one of the Sons of Thor, has fallen in love with Cassandra. He wants to take her away from them but they have the law on their side and he can't admit who they are without admitting who he is.

The two groups will have to set their differences aside and work together to protect Cassandra from her father, who is at large and wants his daughter back.

Cassandra just wants a chance to be a normal child. She doesn't want to jeopardize the love of her family for a mere guy.

Daughter of the Oceans is told in first person from both Cassandra's and Eric's prospective.

Kate Rigby’s Fall Of The Flamingo Circus (Allison & Busby) is perhaps the first novel to get to the point of punk rock. It’s not the usual shock-horror mishmash of sex, speed and silly hair-cuts, but an account of how punk provided an avenue of self-expression for a bright, abused teenage girl from the north…” (John Williams The Face No 27, December 1990).

1923: A Memoir Lies and Testaments 0,89

"As an American married to a Brit, who spent some time in The North, I found it an easy read. He has a very straightforward and yet lyrical way of writing, which propels you through the book, despite it's often grim subject matter. I have recommended it to American friends hoping they won't be stymied by English words not in American usage like 'kip'. Most Americans think England is about Downton Abbey, or if of a certain age Upstairs, Downstairs or Monty Python.
I think this is a welcome view from the bottom rungs of the ladder and therefore more affecting than other social critiques of the working class like EP Thompson or even Richard Hoggart. Hoggart comes from that background, but distances himself through sociological analysis. This is a visceral book and, taken in total with the two sequels, a ripping yarn with sociological implications.
Smith is the best kind of autodidact, one who has obviously continued to think about his context in the world without losing sight of his own unique voice. Highly recommended."

This is a powerful and outstanding novel about the Great War.

Roy Stolworthy has written a story that will stand alongside classics like ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT. It is a brutally honest portrayal of life in the rat-infested, bog-like trenches and the mindless slaughter of millions of brave, courageous soldiers commanded by largely incompetent aristocratic officers who were sometimes shot by their own men.

Thomas Elkin is a fifteen-year-old farm boy who switches identity with his recently conscripted brother whom he has accidentally killed. Elkin disposes of his brother in a rather grim fashion and heads off to war determined to die a glorious death in battle rather than face the hangman's noose in order to atone for his sins.

The author writes vividly and descriptively about the war and the terrible conditions the soldiers faced. Despite a few minor editing glitches the story is effectively told and is gripping for the reader. He brings war to life with its stench and raw brutality. It might be too much for some readers, but it is a tale worth reading. It puts into perspective the sacrifices our grandfathers and great grandfathers made. I know it made me feel proud of my grandfather who fought for the British army in "the war to end all wars".

I became familiar with the author through another of his books, The Dancing Boy, a five-star tale of Afghanistan, and it is amazing that this one was his first novel. Mr. Stolworthy sets a standard hard to beat. The ending is a twist and was a complete surprise to how I thought it would end.

I can't really call this book enjoyable but it is a must read for anyone who wants to know and truly understand what life in war is really like. Truly a masterpiece!
