Gerade weibliche Mode ist neben dem Ausdruck individueller Selbstdarstellung immer auch das Resultat von gesellschaftlich festgelegten Normen und Rollenerwartungen, die das innere wie äußere ideale Erscheinungsbild der Frau entscheidend mitbestimm(t)en. Anhand exemplarisch ausgewählter, epochemachender Entwicklungen wie beispielsweise dem Chemisenkleid, der Biedermeierkrinoline und dem Reformkleid werden die vorgestellten Entwürfe ideologisch in den zeitgenössischen Kontext eingebunden und dabei individuelle Gestaltungsfreiräume ausgelotet.
Synopsis
Feminine fashions have always been the product, not only of individual self-expression but also, and perhaps more importantly, of societal norms and role expectations which have also been co-determinants of both the internal and external ideal of feminine beauty. Femme Fashion features an exemplary design selection of ground-breaking developments in fashion, such as the chemise dress, the Biedermeier crinoline and the functional dress propagated by the reform movement is linked with its idealogical and temporal context while individual freedoms of design are explored. Apart from giving an historical overview, Femme Fashion also focuses on the current fashion situation. The young fashion designer Eva Gronbach presents the work of such brilliant designers as Yamamoto, Miyake, Gucci, Yves Saint Laureant, Lang et al as well as striking creations hot off the drawing-boards of the young generation of designers.
