Book Description
Malta is piled high with history stretching from prehistoric times through to WWII. In a collection of 12 walks we take in a combination of Malta's ancient and modern aspects. Country strolls through pastoral landscapes contrast with more energetic explorations of ridges and cliffs. We cover the region north from Sliema in two parts; Part 1 covering the region north and west of Sliema to Bur Marrad and Buggiba, Part 2 covering the region north from Mgarr to Paradise Bay and the Marfa Ridge. All walking routes are clearly defined on the 1:25000 scale 'OS' maps which we have licenced from the Malta Planning Authority, and are linked to the island's excellent bus service. During our research we stayed at the Imperial Hotel in Sliema, where the 'old world' atmosphere makes a welcome change from some of the 'faceless' hotels offered by holiday companies. While Malta is not well endowed with country 'tipicos' there are one or two welcome surprises to be found.
