Synopsis

Five years after the ending of the Avatar Trilogy, Cyric, the mad god of the Dead, mounts a search for Kelemvor Lyonsbane, the friend that he murdered to become a god, and the other gods form an alliance against Cyric. Reissue.

James Lowder, the editor for Richard Awlinsons "The Avatar Trilogy", returns to the realms with his best outing (or so I think). The twisted story of Cyric, the man who would be a god continues. The Sewer rat made bad, continues to vie for power amidst the Fearunian Pantheon; but his schemes don't go unchecked. Mystra, Lady of Magic, and his old mortal friend fights him at every turn. Mr. Lowder does a marvelous job with the characters, especially Rhinda, the lowly scribe, and both of the major deities (Cyric and Mystra). I recommend this book whole heartedly. However, the characters in this book are dependant, to a degree I fear, on the foreknowledge gained in reading the Avater Series. I recommend you start there. But get them done so you can read this one!

Die Avatar-Trilogie war eine der besten FR-Trilogien, die ich bisher gelesen habe. Das Sequel kommt fast an die Spannung der Vorgänger dran. Nur zum Schluß wird die Handlung leicht unübersichtlich (Ist Mask eigentlich jetzt Godsbane oder nicht?). Trotzdem ein packendes und spannendes Buch, auch wenn das Lesen der Vorgänger zum Verstehen der Story hilft.

Well, the sequel to the avatar series. I thought that I should give it a try. But very soon I had to find out, that the author did not put the slightest thought into his story. If things would work the way James Lowder describes them, even the most stabil fantasy world would go to pieces. In this books gods do not act by duty or by the way they are defined by their portfolio, but on a whim. The mortals which they are to serve as said in the avatar series are the least of their concern. As I said, not the slightest piece of thought behind the story.

Leave your hands of that book if you want to save yourself from a headache!!!
