I really liked the book because Polgara is such a strong character. Sometimes she has to work around the attitude of the people who think that women do not understand politics and the way she does it is brilliant and hilarious.

The book is written with such a dry humour, I always have to laugh when Polgara casually speaks about another few decades passing. Sometimes she(as a disciple from one of the good gods) has to go out and try to beware the races in the west of the scheming of the disciples of the bad guy (it's more politics than religion ,really) and her solution is highly entertaining. The attitude of those people she deals with is amusing and the reader agrees with Polgara rolling her eyes at them.

A little drawback is the fact the authors never fully explain the whole background story. I read this book without knowing anything about the others and it takes a little while to get used to but the most important things ARE explained.

I think the book like "Belgarath the Sorcerer" is written to complete the series because they never tell you about the final "EVENT". I just finished "Belgarath..." and decided to read "Pawn of Prophecy" to get to know detailled information of Polgara's last "charge". I might read the whole series if they keep their dry sense of humour!

I still like to recommend this book to people who don't want to read the other books because Polgara is a great character and the book mostly makes you want to laugh out loud although it has its sad moments.

Finally, the saga is complete and this book doesn't disappoint at all. It is, off course, very similar to "Belgarath the Sorcerer". People who read the other books by David & Leigh Eddings will love it, for everyone else, let me warn you: The book takes its time to get into high gear and many things that Pol writes about are hard to understand for people who haven't read the other books. So, for those of you, you can subtract two stars from my rating. For Eddings-fans, this is a must-read: We finally learn how Polgara guarded the Rivan line and it is a fascinating concept that someone has to take care for a blood-line for 15(!) centuries, staying with that family for so long, always seeing people get born, grow up and die. Very sad, but a fascinating idea. For everyone who has read "Belgarath the Sorcerer" here's a valuable hint: Have the Belgarath-book close by when you read Polgara's story. It is absolutely fascinating to read the same events from two perspectives. A hint to the publisher: How about putting those two books together in one single (very thick) volume in a cross-cut style switching always from Belgarath to Polgara and back?

This book is a must for fans of the Belgariad.

It tries to fill the dark times of Polgaras live, her youth, the difficult childhood, her first love and the time she was raising generations of hidden kings.
