This work aims, through a study of Mohammed Iqbal's poetry, to arrive at an understanding of his personality and the relationship in which he stood to the life of his times. It provides a sympathetic yet critical picture of Iqbal's intellectual life and the contemporary political context as well as an expression of the pre-Partition ethos, including the character of the Muslim intelligentsia and its dilemmas.
