Throughout our voyage in this wonderful quest called life, we sometimes hit a few bumps in the road. Too many of these in a row might steer us off course and into unfamiliar territory. However, a couple of setbacks shouldn't deter us from traveling any farther. Sometimes it's better to stop and ask for directions or even talk to someone who's traveled down the same path. Wherever you may end up in life, it's not the goal at the end that defines us but the journey along the way that makes us who we are.

If my introduction didn't lay it on thick enough, I must say that I've had my fair share of setbacks in my day. Nothing is worse than that horrid feeling of uncertainty that continually haunts our thoughts. The demand it takes on our bodies is sickening. But, as I've learned in my many years taking in and now imparting wisdom, that life doesn't have to be that way. We can control not only our fate but how we deal with the unexpected bumps along the way. I'm a huge fan of self-help books and this one by Frank Ra really stole my attention. His theories into controlling happiness really spoke to me and I had to dive in further for a closer look. I really enjoyed the rational, consistent, and logical arguments presented in his book. A lot of times, self-help books will preach the same message over and over again that it becomes dull and otherwise "preachy". That can be received very harshly by anyone trying to pull the real message from within. On the other hand, Frank's book A Course in Happiness succeeds where so many others have failed.

The entire book is broken up into specific segments and chapters. Each one defines in detail how your happiness is regulated and what you can do to control it. I particularly liked the chapter dealing with eating properly and exercising. You'd be surprised how good you can start feeling by just eating healthier and staying in shape. Our bodies should be treated as temples. When you put garbage in, you're only going to get garbage out. Happiness is more than just a state of mind; it's also a state of being. It involves every square inch of your body and if one of them hasn't been wound up properly, it will never reach its full potential.

Frank's overall message is concise and focused, which is what all self-help books should be. After I finished reading it I got a deeper understanding not only about how happiness works but also how we can do a few simple things to control it. You'll be very pleased with the amount of thought and attention that went into this book. I can honestly say that his teachings are spot on. I do feel a greater understanding and sense of happiness after I finished it and it will only continue to grow stronger thanks to this great book.

If you really want to take control of your happiness, pick this up today. You'll thank me later.

This is an interesting and practical read dissecting the nature of how to be happy by being aware (of your body, relationships, environment). The book won't make you happy - that is still your job; the book gives practical steps to help you discover your own happiness.
The author has definitely researched the field and brought back a lot of useful information. The book gives a formula to calculate your level of subjective well being; it lays out the basic daily routine of Ayurveda to help you with balance; and tells you about the wisdom of the First Nations (eg. The Teachings of Seven Grandfathers).
I like that the author has taken a dry topic (can you really discuss happiness?) and made it a guide with practical examples and routines that help you be more aware of yourself and surroundings and thereby set you on your own journey to find happiness.
