5.0 von 5 Sternen a must-have book for young children about how babies are born -- written with love and sensitivity, too 1. März 2014
Von Matthew G. Sherwin - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Anat Umansky has written yet another fine book for young children, this time about how babies are born with beautiful illustrations by Eyvgeni Lagutin. The book tells small children how babies are born in a sensitive way that should satisfy their curiosity without ever becoming too simplistic or too detailed; and I like that a lot! The book also teaches children a number of correct words for the topic at hand and that’s another good thing. I should also note that with the Kindle purchase of this book there is a complimentary audio edition of this book with Michael Jarra as narrator.

One day, two small kids who are siblings, Orly and Lior, are talking and their discussion turns to the topic of how babies are born. They think of possibilities: the stork bringing babies into the world; a baby growing out of a cabbage—or even a baby growing out of a flower! They also wonder how baby kittens are born and how baby fish are born, too; and the book discusses this and more in general, age-appropriate terms which is good because their parents are at work and their grandparents our on vacation!

For example, children will learn that the mother fish spawns eggs and the father fish “(spreads) sperm cells from his body” that mix with the mother fish’s eggs so that “cute little minnows” are born. The book then proceeds to tell similar stories about how baby ducklings are born and how baby kittens are born. Young children are ultimately told (in an age-appropriate, somewhat general way) how human babies are born but still with words all throughout the book to enhance a young child’s vocabulary like “fertilizes;” “embryo;” “pregnancy” and “womb.”

There’s a bit more to the story than this but I’ll stop here to avoid spoiling it all for you. Suffice it to say that it’s all very well written and quite informative for young children!

I highly recommend this very educational book for children who are still rather young but just old enough to begin wondering just how babies are born. They will learn much from this book which will properly introduce them to the topic in a thoughtful, sensitive and loving way. Grownups will also be able to bond with young children as they read this book together and that’s grand.
Great work, Anat Umansky and Eyvgeni Lagutin! This is a very good book indeed!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Learn The Fundamentals Of Human Reproduction 5. März 2014
Von Dr. Joseph S. Maresca - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Orly and Lior are central characters in this book about
how babies are born. The presentation is illustrated
superbly with credible hypotheses by the children who
wonder whether or not babies are delivered by stork or
perhaps they come into this world similar to how
flowers grow.

The questions raised are typical for young inquiring
minds in the early primary school learning environment.
The all color pictures add considerably to the real world
practicality of the discussions between the children.

This book will help young children develop good reading
habits, build on reproductive vocabulary and contribute to
the dynamics of small group discussions which children
often have in the primary grades between and among
themselves and with the librarians in periodic readings.
The book is highly recommended for young readers in
their continuing quest to learn about life.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Great Learning Tool for Children! 4. September 2014
Von Kathryn svendsen - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
How Do Babies Come into this World is also known as How Babies are Born? The change in title is simply due to a different edition.

This is a wonderful book to bring out when your child asks the inevitable question “Where do babies come from?” Many parents have a difficult time answering this question because they don’t know how much information to give the child.

Lior and Orly and two children who are playing together when they start chatting about how babies come into the world. They talk about the different things that they have heard. They don’t really believe these could be the real way it happens but there is no one around to tell them how it really happens. Then the book they have with them speaks up and offers to tell them.

I love this book because it explains some of the myths we have used to explain to children over the many years such as the stork brings them, they grow in the cabbage patch or they grow out of flowers. Then in simple words it explains the different ways that different animals bring their babies into the world, and lastly how moms and dads bring babies into the world.

There is no information that will cause anyone to blush in this book, but the information is complete enough that it will satisfy young curious minds. Correct vocabulary is used such as egg, sperm and womb.

This is a great story to read to your children or for beginning readers to read for themselves with some help for the larger vocabulary words like incubating, fertilize, and pregnancy.

The illustrations in How Do Babies Come into this World are bright and boldly coloured. They are humorous and interesting. The only one I had a little trouble with was the one with the cat sperm and eggs. It looked like they were underground as Lior, Orly and the Book were pictured sitting/standing just above them.

The best thing of all is that this book comes with a free audio version of the book that you can request on-line after you read the book. This will allow your child to listen to the book over and over again with or without you reading it to them. Following along with the audio version will also help them learn to recognize words as beginning readers.

I attempted to download the audio version of this book. When I clicked on the link it sent me an email in which was supposed to be the link to get the book. However, there was no working link in the email. My attempts to contact the author regarding this issue were not resolved before this review was published.

I think How Do Babies Come into this World is an excellent choice for families and schools who want a book to help them explain some of the facts of life to younger children. I would highly recommend it! I gave it 5 stars out of 5!

Thank you to the author for providing a copy of the book in exchange for a fair and honest review. A positive opinion was not required. All thoughts are my own.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Where Did I Come From? 29. Dezember 2013
Von prisrob - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
The author, Anat Umansky, has given parents the answer to the age old question, "How do babies come into this world?" This book is well written with children's ages taken into account.

Lior and Orly are two children who are playing, and one day they were talking to each other and the question of babies and where they came from came up. Each of the had heard the stories of the stork bringing babies, and comng from the cabbage patch. Both seemed a little silly to them. They thought about asking their parents or grandparents, but neither set was at home. Then, they decided to look at a book to explain where babies come from.

The book discusses fishes, ducklings, kittens and then humans. A very well told and simple explanation. All of it makes sense, and for most children this will satisfy their curiosity. If they have more questions, then each parent can decide just how much information to discuss.

The author is well versed on children's needs and how they question. The writing is precise and captures each word precisely. The illustrations by Evygeni Lagutin are colorful and capture the writing with beautiful illustrations. They are also specific to each question. This is a book that belongs in every home. Note: I was given this book to read and review.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A loving way to share information about the beginning of life 29. Dezember 2013
Von Grady Harp - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Author Anat Umansky has written another excellent children's book beautifully illustrated by Eyvgeni Lagutin. There is an audio version of the book also (free with the purchase of the Kindle book) and the narrator is Michael Jarra. Umansky understands the importance of sharing realistic yet understandable information for children whose questions about the world they have entered are worthy of thoughtful answers. An example of her sensitivity is in this book about reproduction.

Orly and Lior wonder where babies come from. Orly offers the Stork concept, Lior the center of a cabbage idea, and Orly suggests coming form the center of a flower. As bright youngsters they consider how a garden grows - planting a seed, watering it while the seed grows roots to find food from Mother Earth until it has the strength to emerge from the ground until it produces a flower. But they know you can't grow fish or animals by planting them in the ground so they seek advice from their parents (who are at work) and then their grandparents who are leaving on a trip. They turn to a book and there they learn the reproductive cycle of fish, ducks, and cats - and with each concept the reality of how they were born out of their parents love and decision to marry and have a family: a very well written and illustrated version of the joining of a sperm and an egg developing into a fetus and being born. Information from a book (this gives the children the idea that they discovered the truth on their own!) that will please both parents and children.

This is a very successful and very sensitive and entertaining book for children - no half-truths, just honesty shared in a manner that makes it comfortably understandable! Grady Harp, December 13
