Pressestimmen

"Lennard Zinn is a veritable cycling Einstein, and as a naturally gifted teacher he has the unique ability to explain even the most difficult mechanical task." --Davis Phinney, Olympic medalist, U.S. Pro champion, and Tour de France stage winner"Understanding the mechanics of your bike, knowing how to adjust it to suit your riding style, and knowing how to keep it running smoothly are essential to your mountain biking performance. Nobody teaches these skills better than the famous artiste "Leonardo da Zinnski." --Ned Overend, World and National Mountain Bike Champion"Lennard Zinn is an institution in the bicycle world--a legend. Legions of cyclists have learned to repair bikes from him, ridden bicycles he's built, or used his advice as guidance on how to better enjoy the world on two wheels." -- Bicycle Times magazine"Regardless of your skill level, this book is a great manual to have on hand. In its 5th edition, Zinn adds to an already impressive knowledge base, keeping things up-to-date with current innovations and tools. It doesn't spend all of its 464 pages going over installation and maintenance procedures; there are also a lot of useful tips and tricks." -- Adventure Cycling magazine"Zinn is very good at taking you incrementally through the learning process--whether you are a beginner or expert mechanic." -- Out There Monthly magazine"This book almost rates along with those 'missing manuals' that exist for computer software. When was the last time the manual that came with your bike bore any relation to it? Exactly. You could barely buy a decent tire for the price of this book and that should be justification enough." -- TheWashingMachinePost.net"Simple to reaad and follow, the illustrated, large-format paperback manual features everything from replacing a flat to repairing components. It's a great addition to any new biker's library but offers invaluable advice for experts, too." -- Sports Guide magazine"This 5th edition contains detai

5.0 von 5 Sternen Geniales Reparatur-Buch 12. Januar 2013
Format:Taschenbuch

Also nicht vom Englisch abschrecken lassen... :-)

I'm getting really interested in cycling and a lot of people recommended this book for home repairs and for improving the general knowledge of how mountain bikes work.

I am not dissapointed. I'm going to learn so much. Can't wait!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Best Bike Maintenance Book You Can Buy 10. Dezember 2010
Von mtb805 - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
I normally don't do reviews but I have fallen in love with this book! I have owned several bike maintenance books such as Park Tool's Big Blue Book and Bicycling's Complete Guide to Maintenance and Repair and they don't even come close to the usefulness of this book! I can attribute this to several things:
-Zinn's diagrams and tables are extremely helpful over the typical photo; it allows a more in-depth view of the component and the illustrations are a refreshing take on a maintenance guide.
-The book is organized well and includes tidbits only a master mechanic like Zinn would know from his years of experience. Repairs are organized by skill level that corresponds to a specific set of necessary tools and experience. He also lists the tools needed for the project.
-His writing has opened my eyes to the fact that most repairs don't need to be perfect; sometimes yanking, fiddling, and improvising is necessary to make your bike run perfectly. Before I was under the impression that most professional mechanics were precise and careful, but I see that their method is not so different from the less-than-perfect method I was already using.

His writing makes bike mechanics not only interesting but even fun! I find myself reading The Art of MTB Maintenance before bed and in my spare time. I've been inspired to tackle repairs I once found daunting and I am learning more in a shorter period of time than I could have ever done with comparable books. I highly recommend this book to every mountain biker as a staple in their repair station.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Covers 99.5% of all the repairs and info that mountain riders will ever need or use. 14. Mai 2013
Von H. Hall - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch|Verifizierter Kauf
My family owns seven bikes including my two very nice high end dual suspension carbon fiber mountain bikes and I am at about the advanced home mechanic level of expertise. I clean, rebuild or install my own headsets, bottom brackets, hub bearings, disk brakes and fork internals. I even build my own wheels occasionally. I however, am not a shop mechanic, and I do not ream bottom brackets, weld frames or align dropouts. With that said, I like to have as a backup to the internet, one complete reference for everyday maintenance. The Zinn book fits that bill perfectly.

His book covers all the basics from purchasing the right tools to basic maintenance to emergency repairs. He also covers roughly 99% or more of the repair procedures that any home mechanic might need to attempt. The book even covers wheelbuilding (which bike purists would say is holy ground), frame alignment, proper rider fit and has a decent set of torque tables.

There are a few areas where Zinn does not go into much detail, but these tend to be rare topics that even the experienced shop mechanic is probably only going to see a few times a year. Perhaps the only weakness of the book is that for a few of the more detailed procedures, some more photos or diagrams would be helpful. For myself, I was fine with the amount of diagrams but I can see where a newer home mechanic might appreciate it. I am also glad he tends to update this work about once every three years. Will be waiting for the next release, and a great guide for more than 99% of home mechanics.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Helpful but by no means perfect 20. September 2013
Von R. Burnette - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch|Verifizierter Kauf
I've been trying to maintain my mountain bikes without any manual and it's been a struggle. I was excited about getting this book to help me through some harder tasks. First--derailleur adjustment: the instructions were too confusing and ultimately not very helpful. I've spent hours on this and the adjustment is still off. Second, replacement of my front derailleur: Even though the directions covered several types of derailleur, it left out some vital steps including how to use the inner sleeve and--oddly--getting the chain through the cage. Presumably, the chain would need to be separated or the cage breeched (a real trick as it was obviously not intended to be opened)--but there was absolutely no mention of this. True, I'm a novice and perhaps everyone but me knows how to do this, but a mention would have been helpful. Finally, changing the front fork and replacing the front stem bearings: The directions were too confusing for me to even think of attempting this and I'll probably need to Google it for more help. I'm still trying to use the book but it is much more complicated than I would like for my inexperience.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Great aid for a newbie 26. April 2011

As someone fairly new to mountain biking, it's great to have the advice of an experienced hand in maintaining your mount. Will pay for itself the first time I do a tuneup.

Unlike one reviewer who complained about the use of illustrations, I think they are far clearer than the typical muddy black & white photos you often see in books of this type.

5.0 von 5 Sternen It covers a lot of hardware 11. April 2014
Von John Twa - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch|Verifizierter Kauf
I was skeptical that the book would cover all the different brands and types of components that I currently have, but so far it's done a very good job. The illustrations are simple, but effective. I like how the book rates each type of repair according to difficulty and tools required. Overall I'm very happy with the book.
