Amazon.com

Welcome to the hilariously hypothetical world of Laura Numeroff and Felicia Bond. Everything has an impact on everything else in this world, so if you take a mouse to the movies, don't be surprised if you find yourself being run ragged by the exuberant little fellow's increasingly grand appetites. When we first met him in Numeroff and Bond's tremendously popular If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, he had more energy than a 2-year-old on lollipops. Now, in the excitement of the Christmas season, he's unstoppable. Going from movie theater to Christmas tree lot to the neighbor's yard for snowmouse-building, he's a very demanding mouse indeed--in only the best way, of course.

The freshness of the If You Give a... series is diminished only slightly as the sequels pile up. The dazed and earnest look on the face of the mouse's long-suffering friend makes a marvelous foil for the mouse's high-spirited expressions. Adult readers will chuckle as they recognize the ephemeral passions of a child, while children will simply love the unfolding chain of events. A perfect Christmas read-aloud for the impetuous youngster on your list. (Ages 4 to 8) --Emilie Coulter

From Booklist

Ages 3-6. Following the popular If You Give a Mouse a Cookie (1987), If You Give a Moose a Muffin (1991), and If You Give a Pig a Pancake (1998), Numeroff offers another lively cause-and-effect romp. When a boy takes a mouse to the movies, the mouse wants popcorn, which he strings together and wants to hang on the Christmas tree that the boy buys for him. On the way home, the mouse wants to play in the snow but then needs to warm up at home, where he sings Christmas carols and wants to decorate the tree. His popcorn string is missing, so he wants to make another, which reminds him of the movies . . . As with the previous titles, children will find both the bouncy speculative text and the colorful illustrations irresistible. In simple pictures filled with wit, Bond personalizes both the story and the characters, creating the earnest boy, eager to please his gleeful, hyper mouse. A charmer that's sure to get plenty of circulation. Gillian Engberg

Von Donald Mitchell TOP 500 REZENSENT
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
Children benefit from stories with predictability. They also need stories that expand their imaginations. If You Take a Mouse to the Movies provides plenty of both.

If you have read the other wonderful stories that precede this one by Felicia Bond, you will quickly recognize the theme. One thing leads to another . . . and pretty soon you are back at the beginning. In this case, the sequence is from movies to popcorn, to strings of popcorn as an ornament, to a Christmas tree, to snowman, to carrot, to fort, to snowball fight, to being cold, to blanket, to Christmas carols, to radio, to singing along, to making Christmas tree ornaments, to popcorn strung as an ornament, . . . and on to a movie.

The beauty of these stories is that they take the perspective of a parent, older sibling, or other older person. This is a hard perspective for a child to appreciate . . . except in these stories. Intuitively, your child will recognize her or his many demands and how they build up on the provider. The result may be to help create a child's perception with a better sense of self-imposed limits. The long-suffering expression on the boy's face as he helps the mouse surely will create sympathy.

I also like the way this book helps children see the connections among things, ideas, and actions. Learning to identify natural systems is a good thinking skill to develop.

The repetition is desirable from another perspective. There are fewer words to learn as a beginning reader.

The humor makes it fun to reread the book, which can lead to memorizing it faster, which leads to learning to read it sooner.

The illustrations are particularly fine in their color and clarify. They set a wonderful mood of positive adventure for your child.

After you have finished enjoying the story for about the 100th time, I suggest that you and your child or grandchild try your hand at writing and illustrating a similar kind of story. The challenges of extending a string of actions and items to reconnect with the beginning will enhance the perceptual benefits that can be gained from this fine book.

What goes around, comes around.

Children will love this one as much as the others 12. Oktober 2000
Von Ein Kunde - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
Numeroff has provided us with a holiday version of her popular "If You Give A Mouse A Cookie" vein of books. I have the other three titles--Mouse, Moose, and Pig--which remain favorites with all of the children in my life. Whenever I pull one of these books out for storytime, I get a gleeful response from my listeners. I just bought this one and I know it will be just as popular, especially during the winter holidays.

This time the Mouse and his friend go to the movies, eat popcorn, decorate a tree, play in the snow and keep us entertained for 32 pages. I enjoy reading these books and the children enjoy the illustrations and the story. I recommend this book as a gift or an addition to your own library.

Little Mouse is Back... 25. Oktober 2000
Von Roz Levine - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
If you take a mouse to the movies, he'll ask for popcorn. When you bring him some, it will remind him of Christmas and he'll want to string it...then he'll demand a tree to hang it from...seeing the snow on the ground will make him want to build a snowmouse, then a snow fort, a snow fort fight...and on and on. This little mouse is as busy and demanding as ever in this fourth book of the series. Laura Numeroff's simple, funny text, captures the essence of the pre-school mind as her mouse jumps from one idea to the next, in his logical little mind, until finally coming full circle, back to the popcorn. Felicia Bond's colorful, busy and expressive illustrations compliment the story perfectly and your youngsters will love finding all the special little details, hidden in the pictures. Children of all ages will be amused and delighted as they enjoy the chaos this little mouse wreaks on his human friend. This is a wonderful holiday book the whole family will enjoy.

A mom overseas 4. November 2000
Von Ein Kunde - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Gebundene Ausgabe
My boys love mouse a cookie, pig a pancake, and moose a muffin so we were excited to order this newest book. However, I don't think that the storyline of this book flows as well as the others do. The transition from one antic to another seems to be a bit of a stretch. The mouse is still as engaging and energetic as ever. The illustrations by Felcia Bond are wonderful. My children still really enjoy this book but they haven't asked to have it read to them repeatedly like they do for the other books. When my husband finished reading it to them, he just looked at me and said that this was "lame".
