The world's greatest maestro of memory offers you the secret of a super-sharp memory – and all the life benefits that come with it.

Dominic O'Brien is legendary for winning the World Memory Championship eight times and for outwitting the casinos of Las Vegas to win a fortune at blackjack. His success is based on brilliant techniques that he has developed and refined over the years - in particular, the Journey Method and the Dominic System. Here, for the first time, Dominic lets you right into the heart of his inner world of memory mastery. Learn how to build your memory at your own pace and take yourself to heights of attainment you never thought were possible. Follow his brain-boosting techniques as a warm-up and then move on to the advanced stuff - recalling dozens of digits with ease, wiping the floor with your opponents at cards, and driving the route from Land's End to John O'Groats without the aid of a satnav or road atlas - that's right, boys, you need never ask for directions again! The memory isn't like a muscle - its capacity is infinite. Turn your brain into a portable super-powered computer with this life-changing self-help book.

Use the power of improved memory to achieve new success in business, leisure, relationships, and all aspects of personal fulfilment.

Unlike every other book of memory techniques, this one isn't trying to sell you anything. It presents the long and interesting journey the author takes to become a master in his field. Along the way, the reader can learn a lot about how their own memory, creativity, and imagination work. One of my early and humorous moments in reading the book was when I noticed how memorable the content I'd read so far was. A good experiential learning experience.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Good techniques and proof by example 28. September 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
I enjoyed reading this book and actually did most of the exercises. Hopefully with persistence I can continue to use the techniques for foreign language study. It does take a while to set up the Journeys and i have only done short (Easy) tasks so far. I haven't tried abstract images yet. Overall it deserves 4 Stars. An excellent guide.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A Journey of the Mind 25. März 2012
Von Robert - Veröffentlicht auf
The techniques in this book really work. As with anything worthwhile, you just have to be disciplined to implement and use it, kind of like exercise. What one might miss when deciding whether or not to buy this book, is that memorizing stuff, is not a drab, boring dreaded task if done properly. Memory training is wonderful journey of the mind if done properly.

Here's what I've experienced:

1.)Weariness. I've worked out my brain, but then, like a runner, it feels great to relax. Most times I sleep better.

2.) It's know common knowledge that we think in words or pictures. (When we think in words, we are actually sounding them out in our mind.) When I've link words to pictures in my minds eye a lot of things happen. I've found it produces a calming affect when my mind needs to re-balance. It kind of Zen like. (There is scientific evidence to back this up.)

3.) I am more aware of the things around me included the most beautiful things in nature.

4.) My mind is stronger and sharper. It's a fact that an 80 year old man can build muscle and bone mass with a regular work out program using weights. I am 57 years old. I am now working out my brain. It now works better. It's no more complicated than that.

5.) Confidence: If you are good or better at what you do, you become more confident.

I can truly say that this book (and Mr. O'Brien's others) have changed my life.

Buy this book. Use it. Even if it serves no purpose, just put it away. Don't feel bad. But don't ever through it out. One day you might come back to it and it might change your life too!

PS After 29 years, I can finally remember my daughter's birthday.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Inspirational and Clearly Written 20. Dezember 2012
Von Inga Goodwin - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
Dominic O'Brien backdrops his explanation of mnemonic techniques by telling his own story, which is quite inspirational. Also, he starts with the most simplistic, yet effective techniques and gradually builds on them to more complex ones. He explains why the techniques are effective and gives very clear examples of how to practice. He showed me that I do have a good memory, I just hadn't learned how to take advantage of it yet.

The only downside is that he did not clearly show how to apply these techniques to the school setting, which would have been much appreciated. The techniques seem isolated to party-tricks, random lists, names, and phone numbers. I am still giving this book 5 stars because it read well and delivered what it said it would. I hope he refines these techniques for academia and then shares with the rest of us how to do it.

Thanks for an inspiring story!

3.0 von 5 Sternen Good techniques but could be half the length 21. Juli 2013
Von S. Stoll - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
When buying this book you need to know that it will not teach you all the common memory techniques which are out there. Rather it goes through the writers experience on the way to become the world champion of some memory contest. It goes on about how he has discovered the techniques and is quite lengthy in this regard. There are some good case studies/examples but too few and easy for my taste. I am writing this after having read 1/3 of the book but you can tell that his style goes on like that. The concept is good but the explanations are quite repetitive.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Superb Read for Anyone wanting to increase memory capacity 20. Juni 2012
Von Damion - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Kindle Edition
I read dozens of books a year on leadership, sales, and other professional "help" type books. There are very few that I can say have made a tremendous impact on my way of thinking. This book has done just that.
Dominic gives precise methods for increasing your memory ability and you can see measurable results by the end of the book.

If you read only book this year, this is the one it should be.

3.0 von 5 Sternen FORGETTABLE MEMORY BOOK 8. August 2013
Von Robert F. Jablon - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Kindle Edition
This book by a memory champion covers a few basic methods for improving your retention but it's larded with too much detail about the author and emphasizes his interests, such as number sequences and card memorization. A bit limited and once-over-lightly for my taste. A much better _ though more expensive _ book is "The Memory Book" by Harry Lorayne and Jerry Lucas. It's well-written, clear and comprehensive. I found myself using it immediately.
