These are quite challenging for a native-speaker average crossword user. My German partner would not be able to get through any of these even halfway alone (Cambridge proficiency certified). Further, some of these are really terribly difficult, whilst others are, with patience, quite doable. VERY unbalanced.
If you are German and have never lived in the USA for quite some time or had like experiences, then I would say that you won`t be happy with this book.

Format:Taschenbuch
I bought this for my mom, who hasn't done crosswords in a while. I thought they would be really easy but they're quite tricky if you're not used to that particular style of crosswords. She's getting used to it now, but just thought I'd let others know who are not familiar with crosswords. Otherwise no complaints.

2 small=2 stars. This puzzle book is the size of an old-time paperback book and the clues and the puzzles are on two different pages. Not the format for me. Not convenient and not user friendly. Be careful to read the descriptions so that you won't make the same mistake I did.

My father-in-law has been doing the NY Times crosswords for 70+ years. He doesn't do the Sunday puzzle because it's too hard. He says he likes Monday and Tuesday best. He likes to do them a day late so he can peek.
Sadly, his mobility and vision have been deteriorating. He had a fall recently and was in the hospital for awhile. I got him this book. Everyone said he wouldn't use it. They had bought other books for him and he just did the ones in the paper. For some reason, maybe because he was bed-ridden, he fell in love with this book. He was bragging to me that he did a couple only peeking once.
I am grateful to Will Shortz for this book which is just the right level for my FIL. I'll get him another when he finishes this one.
