"Greg McMillan is one of the best and smartest distance-running coaches in America." - Amby Burfoot, Runner's World Magazine

"I had the privilege of running under Greg's tutelage during our time working with Italian coach, Gabriele Rosa. Greg understands the needs of the athlete and how to prepare for a peak performance on race day. If you're an athlete and want to train smarter and run faster, study his methods. If you're a coach, get your pen and notebook ready, Greg's training philosophy works." - Josh Cox, American Record Holder

5.0 von 5 Sternen Right on the mark 6. Mai 2013
Von Andrew W - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
This is a great book for runners of all abilities looking to fine tune their training programs for multiple race distances from the 5k to the marathon. The book provides detailed, step-by-step instructions on how to build a customized training program for the individual runner and tailor it to each runner's strengths, weaknesses and time constraints. Base mileage, hills, speedwork, tempo, long run, and goal pace training segments are all provided, along with advice on how to schedule each specific segment and Greg's McMillan's general philosophies on running and training guidance. The book is concise and easy to follow, yet well written in a manner that connects with both beginners and more advanced runners. I've been an avid adherent to Greg's training philosophies since I began running and have PR'd every race distance and qualified for Boston multiple times using his advice and training programs. They work and have allowed me to build mileage, endurance and stamina while avoiding injury. I highly recommend this book (and McMillan's training philosophies generally) to any runner who follows McMillan Running or is looking to change-up or enhance their training program.

2.0 von 5 Sternen Kindle Edition is Flawed 4. September 2013
Von Amazon Customer - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

This book looks promising, but it is hard to judge by the Kindle edition. Whole sections are missing; the charts are barely legible, and everytime the author begins to discuss something interesting... the next page turns out to be blank. I am hoping Amazon will refund/exchange my kindle copy for a print edition so I can actually read the book.

2.0 von 5 Sternen Kindle version is disappointing 19. August 2013

McMillan's fan should get print version because Kindle version can only be half read - pretty much a waste of the anthor's time and readers' money.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Delivers on its promise 13. Mai 2013
Von George E. Sperzel - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
What makes this book different from all the other running books out there is stated clearly in the title. It's about helping runners run faster, not just a general book about running. But more important, it is about making YOU as an individual run faster. Greg has taken all the current research and added his and others' years of hands-on experience and put it into a framework that is adapted to the specific nature and needs of each individual runner. The framework is flexible enough to cover all distances as well as all ages and abilities. Virtually anyone can take this book in conjunction with Greg's online calculator and put together a program that will have them setting new personal records in a surprisingly short time. I have been following Greg's methods for years and can attest to their effectiveness. The workouts are challenging but fun, and there is a specific reason for doing each and every one of them. Greg is a very smart coach and there is a ton of science behind his approach, but like all great coaches he knows how to put everything in common-sense terms that anyone can understand. I recommend this book without reservation, and expect that it will go on to become a classic.

2.0 von 5 Sternen Good Beginner Book 28. September 2013
Von Runner - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

I was very disappointed in the book, nothing really new here, especially for the advanced runner. There are already numerous books out there that all basically say the same thing, so if you already have a basic running book and are a beginner to intermediate I would save the money and buy the Noakes' "Lore of Running" book or even the Livingstone book "Healthy Intelligent Running" that better addresses the Lydiard approach from a New Zealander's perspective, both are more bang for the buck. The text is very double spaced and seems to be a lot of filler to stretch the book out more. I was also very turned off by the constant use of First Person perspective, maybe that was just me but I have never seen so many "I" "I" "I" that it became tiresome reading very quickly. But if you are a beginner or intermediate and don't have a book on running, maybe a good choice.
