Kurzbeschreibung

1. März 1999 Xenophobe's Guides
Extracts from the book
Fun in the sun: Anyone attempting to understand the Spanish must first of all recognize the fact that they do not consider anything important except total enjoyment. If it is not enjoyable it will be ignored.
You can't buy happiness: The happiness of the individual is considered to be much more important than money. The goatherd who strolls the countryside with his animals breathing in the fresh air and loving his problem-less life is much more admired than the wealthy industrialist who hasn't time to enjoy life and spends quite a lot of his earnings on medicines to calm his peptic ulcers.
Sexplicit: In Spain lust is ever in the air. There is nothing about the Spanish appreciation of sex that is inhibited or restrained. It is accepted that both men and women love making love, which is why there are very few sexual crimes in the country.

3.0 von 5 Sternen A fun book to read - but very superficial 24. August 2010
Format:Taschenbuch
It is a nice book to read over and anyone who spent some time there will certainly experience some of the superficialities described in the book, however, I found it a little bit disturbing because it does not substantiate the statements and everything sounds very radical, actually too radical. I had not been to Spain for a long time, but I find it hard to believe what statements are made. Truly, in every "stereotypical description" there is some truth, but in this case I only recommend this book to people, who don't take the text at face value but rather see it as a funny book. After all, 86 pages are too few to claim that a general picture could be painted.

I'm a Spanish and I enjoyed this book very much because everything it says is true. All the topics are treated with lots of humour and that makes the book really enjoiable. Furthermore, while you are having fun reading the book you learn of the Spanish way of life...

3.0 von 5 Sternen Superficial impressions by an English person 26. Dezember 2012
Von Terry5555 - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch|Verifizierter Kauf
This book is very superficial and written from the point of view of an English person who has visited Spain on a cheap package tour with inncluded bad food, does not speak Spanish and has met only the Spanish equivalent of English Soccer hooligans. I have been to Spain 4 times, speak Spanish and do not agree with the author's impressions, except about the Spanish love of danger and brushes with death. If you read only this book, you might not go to Spain
and that would be a great mistake, because it is very beautiful and most of the people are dignified and polite. And the fresh seafood, rice, fruit and vegatables
are delicious.

2.0 von 5 Sternen Obviously based on a whim 5. Mai 2013
Von Bill Deef - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

You can come away from any culture with any ideas. The author is trying to stride the line between Northern Europe's culture and the Iberian one. Some things had to be said, about the strange Spanish attitude towards time, their pride, and even their typical Latin easy-goingness. But this is a two-dimensional view, perforce, and there is little to distinguish some aspects of Spanish character delineated here from that of the other Latin cultures (esp. Italy and perhaps even southern French).
Well, maybe one shouldn't expect so much from such a short work after all.

4.0 von 5 Sternen So "on-target" I laughed in fond rememberance! 15. Dezember 1999
Von Rebecca Lair - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
This book is a witty and very clever look at Spanish society. I found most of what I read to be so incredibly true that I was laughing out loud. There are some parts which I found to be less than accurate, in my experience at least, and for that I give it four stars instead of five. Other than that, I highly recommend it. Do take it with a grain of sand however.
5.0 von 5 Sternen Humorous and accurate 13. Juni 2014

I bought this for a friend of mine who moved to Spain (not having ever visited Spain or even Europe). After a month or so of living and working there he told me that it was spot-on and was very thankful to have read it before his move. It is short and easy to read, and could easily be read on a transatlantic flight over there.
