Je trouve que la plupart des critiques formulées par nos amis américains sont dures. Je les trouvent bien pensants. Ce livre ne décrit pas les coulisses de l'industrie du porno gay, mais la vie de Joey Stefano. Un parcours de junkie. Le livre ne cherche à blâmer personne, il expose les fait. Reste un sentiment de voyeurisme sur la vie de cet homme, mais c'est précisemment le côté humain de sa vie qui importe...

I expected this book to give insights into the porn industry and its ride to ruin, but I didn't get that. All I came away with was a junkie who sold his body, used dope when people treated him like an object, then died. The author kept a neutral attitude toward the pornographers that was journalistic, to be sure. I don't think I would have been so objective.

I think this book is worth reading because his author offers a well-written and well-researched insight into the porn business - a topic every gay man to some degree is more or less fascinated by. Isherwood puts Joey's life in the broader context of US-porn business and gay sexuality. The person Joey comes across as very unstable and insecure person who finds his calling in performing sex for money, both on and off screen. Isherwood covers successfully an area of gay life which people are not always comfortable to talk about though it is an important part of gay culture - whatever that may be. I did enjoy reading this book very much since it is informative and the author has a dry sense of humour. I recommend this book - since reading reading Joey's movies somehow do not do it for me anymore. But then there are so many others to take his place.
