'Without A Sound' is the bands sixth studio album and third of our Blanco y Negro re-issues for the band. 180g vinyl pressing featuring heavyweight outer sleeve and newly designed inner bag. Originally released in August 1994, it is the first Dinosaur Jr album not to feature Murph on drums, who is replaced by vocalist and guitarist J.Mascis. Although the album received a mixed response from the press it proved to be their most commercially successful album charting in the US Billboard Chart and across Europe. The album turned out to be one of the fans favourites and the singles ' Feel The Pain' and 'I Don't Think So' became the bands biggest hits. Mascis later revealed the death of his father had a huge impact on the album, so much so that it took a further three years to deliver another album 1997's 'Hand It Over'. 'Without A Sound' is definitely a great Dinosaur Jr album, the songs reflecting the turmoil in Mascis personal life, 'Feel The Pain' a point in case, with its lyric ' I feel the pain of everyone, then I feel nothing". The circular acoustic' Outta Hand' shows his compassionate side, with its intensity a fitting statement to his writing talents. 'Grab It' on the other hand squeals and screeches its way through rift after rift with a percussive anxiety that seems to try to be over to quickly. The albums closing track; 'Over You Shoulder' is his tribute to his father, touching, a sentiment showing his undoubted softer side.
