Everything you need, but a mashup of content vs tests 18. Juli 2013
Von FranticInFresno - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Taschenbuch
I ordered this book the day it was released.
It only arrived a week ago, so if the other folks here read the 924 pages, watched all the videos, completed all the practice tests and flashcard, and successfully completed the official exams (claims of "I PASSED!),
well they are better speed readers than I.

I'm only about half way through the book, but wanted to highlight my experience so far.
The book is well organized.

It outlines the goals of each test, with specific quotes you'd normally have to scour Microsoft's website to obtain.

There is much additional downloadable material
([...] included with the purchase.
These include video demonstrations of specific tasks outlined in each chapter.
Practice questions with answers, to be completed at the completion of each chapter.
And a practice exam for each of the tests this book covers.
Flashcards and Glossary.
Each of the tests 70-410,70-411,70-412, have overlapping material.
While the goals for each test are clearly outlined, and the appropriate chapters are noted, there is a great deal of information that overlaps.
If you are under a time constraint, know this will dramatically slow down the process of studying for each specific test.

Example. If you want to study specifically for test 70-410, Chapter 2 on DNS is required reading. Unfortunately all the information for 70-411 & 70-412 are tightly intertwined with the 70-410 information you really initially needed.
Added DAYS to my study time.

Test 70-410 is listed as needing chapters: 1,2,3,4,5,8,9,10,13,14,16,17. I was expecting first test, first chapters, not skipping around.

I would have preferred a more clean & clear delineation of the material to the test.

Reading the book, and then taking ALL THREE TESTS seems to be the idea.
At least it appears that way to me.

The videos are short, simply, and to the point.
The book was very clear on the tasks, the videos seemed almost redundant (not sure if this is a con for the video content, or a compliment to the author on his written material! LoL.

I am also viewing CBT Nuggets video series, I am finding the videos in concert with this book to be very educational.

All in all, this books is a great collection of information, and I do recommend.

It took the FULL week for delivery, not early, but not late.

Plenty general information, but nothing indepth! How are you all passing? I don't believe it! 2. August 2013
Von Jason - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Taschenbuch
I find many of these reviews very fishy, so let me tone down all these 5/5 stars and give an honest review of this book! If you've taken ANY Microsoft exam, you know that their questions are more in-depth and scenario based. While this book covers a lot of content found in Windows Server 2012, it is VERY, VERY, basic knowledge that if you are already in an environment with Server 2003, 2008, 2008R2, and 2012, should know about. It DOES NOT go into depth about how you will go about and configure any of the topic objectives, which is what I know Microsoft tests you on.

I'd recommend this book for anyone who wants to learn what's new in Server 2012, but I definitely would not recommend this as a "complete study guide" to pass your MCSA.

No Confidence In This Book 19. August 2013
Von John Myers - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
The author does a wonderful job of telling you which chapters cover which objectives and exams. However, the material is all mixed together, so you have to cherry pick what parts to read or just read all 900+ pages at once. I only want to focus on exam 70-410, but have to worry about cramming too much in by reading stuff from other exams. Very inconvenient and doubles the work. I finished reading the parts I needed, took the practice test, and failed. I blame most of this on my busy life and difficulty finding time to read. However, there were a few questions not covered by the book, which is odd.

I think for exam 70-410, there's enough material to pass, but I can't see how the other two exams are covered. By my calculation, approximately 600 of those 900+ pages were dedicated to 70-410, so how do the other 300+ pages contain new info for two more advanced exams? I'd skip this one, or just use it as a reference for your job.

Disappointed 17. September 2013
Von Soul Reaper - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
If you intend to do the 70-410, 70-411, 70-412 exams all at one go, then this book might help you achieve your goal. However in my case, I opted to first study and do the exam for 70-410 and following that, study for the rest of the exams required to get the certification. My disappointment with this book, lies with the fact that it is not ideal for this situation since it is very difficult to study the contents of one exam (e.g. 70-410) without overlapping with the contents of the other exams. The sections belonging to a particular exam are not outlined clearly in this book and I suggest that you avoid it if you intend to study for each exam individually.

DO NOT rely on this book as your only MCSA study guide 4. August 2013
Von Mario Alvares - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
I bought this book after looking at all the 4 and 5-star reviews. I agree with Jason (who reviewed this book on 1-Aug-2013) about the 1 and 2 line reviews being fishy. This book contains a lot of general information, but a lot of important exam topics have insufficient coverage.

I bought this book AFTER I passed the 70-410 exam, to help me study for the 70-411 exam. Many of the 70-411 topics such as DirectAccess, FSRM, NAP etc have very little information other than a high-level conceptual overview. Also, I found the organization of this book a little strange in some areas. Routing which is just one of the sub-objectives on the 70-411 exam has a fairly large section dedicated to it, while other more complex topics such as ADFS, ADRMS, ADCS etc. are compressed together within a single chapter.

For a book that claims to be a "COMPLETE study guide", one would expect, at the very least, that each of the exam objectives is addressed, but this not the case. In many instances (DirectAccess and DFS being examples), the only exercises are how to install a particular role or feature. No details about configuring the role/feature are provided, whatsoever.

I returned this book yesterday. I am now using 'Training Guide: Administering Windows Server 2012 by Orin Thomas' along with CBT Nuggets, TechNet and practice labs to prepare for the 411 exam.
