"Windblown Clouds" by Thomas K. Shor is the real-life adventure story of a young American man in his early 20s who lived and traveled with the natives in India and on the Island of Corfu in Greece. Shor's focus, attention and respect for the people, their spirituality and land transforms ordinary every day experiences into a sacred journey or pilgrimage. Each person along the way becomes a character in this sacred journey. A Greek Orthodox monk who lived alone in an ancient monastery on top of Mount Pantokrator near the village of Strinilas on Corfu was so impressed with Shor he wanted him to become his successor. Ed Spencer an ex-Harvard professor in his late 60s, who'd lived in India for 17 years, showed Shor how to travel with only the clothes on his back and with what fits into his pockets. He also taught him to leave room for serendipity, put himself in the hands of the unknown and how real adventures began when they lost their way. David McKay, another teacher, who lived at the foot of the Himalayas explained, "No philosophy - no matter how pure will impart true wisdom...You must uncover wisdom within yourself by peeling away layers - like the skin of an onion - until you find the sparkling crystal that lies at the center." He also reminded Shor that the Buddha's last words were, "Work out your own salvation with diligence." It's also within the teachings of Christ and Hindu doctrines.
"Windblown Clouds" is a tale told with humor, curiosity, passion, warmth and wisdom. Shor's transformative journey is not to be missed.
