Kurzbeschreibung

Corn World. Britland. After the great flood, only memories, debris and derelict buildings speak of a past civilization. Visions of these disturbing times haunt Cerridwen's dreams. When her dying mother sends Cerridwen to find a mural in Saint Eyes and lead Britland into a better future, the young healer has little choice but to set out on a life-changing quest. Her ability to perceive auras convinces her to accept nature-attuned Trevly's offer of protection.

Bent on adventure and enthralled by the promise of treasure, beautiful Sasha, cunning Aron and uncut Boris join forces to get the most out of life. Their selfish plans collide with Cerridwen's when they learn about a powerful ring and a mural pointing the way to its location.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Dark, Edgy, Confronting. Humanity in the raw. 9. Mai 2012
Von Calamity
Format:Kindle Edition
Wind Over Troubled Waters, the first book in a futuristic fantasy series, is a dark, edgy novel, driven by flawed and tortured people struggling to survive in their battered and ruined communities. At its heart, seventeen-year old Cerridwen casts a shining light. She is the hope for humanity.

The story hooks us in the opening scene when Cerridwen flees with her mother from a devastating mudslide in the dead of night. She draws us into her primitive future - a future where derelict buildings and abandoned cars planted with wild herbs are the only evidence of an advanced civilization before the great flood destroyed it.

Cerridwen, named after the goddess of healing, sets out from Red Roof on a quest to find the wise old woman of Hailing who will guide her towards fulfilling her destiny. It is her mother's dying wish that Cerridwen (Wen) make her country, Britland, a better place for everyone through the power of a moonstone ring.

Even at this young age, it is clear Wen is a gifted healer. She sees and interprets auras of those around her and has visions of the Britland of a bygone era. She comes to rely on a mysterious traveller, named Trevly, who has exceptionally well-developed senses and the ability to calm the wildest beast. Together they make the dangerous trek through Corn World to Hailing. Along the way, Wen brings hope and healing to the needy, in spite of the abuses they subject her to.

Cerridwen's story runs parallel to Sasha's, a manipulative, materialistic woman whose nature and purpose are in stark contrast to Wen's. Sasha travels from the opposite direction, with her two `knights', Boris, a rough brute, and Aron, the man who rescued her from a cruel `husk band' in Pens Dance.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Straight to my 'Favourite' Shelf... 9. Mai 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
From a landslide beginning `Wind Over Troubled Waters' sweeps us along with the perfect mix of misadventure and challenge on Cerridwen and Sasha's parallel quests.

Batten down the hatches! Wind Over Troubled Waters sweeps readers into a future world devastated by flood. Surviving a landslide, grief and desolation, Cerridwen's quest is to fulfill her mother's dying wish. Sasha's quest is for freedom, adventure and meaning for her life.
The world Stanley and Parzefall create is familiar in a frightening way. The journey through a future flood-ravaged world reveals the value of the storyteller, the healer, the quick witted and the strong. Through Cerridwen and Sasha's parallel quests we rediscover the value of old skills, loyalty, compassion, freedom and the deeper emotion of love.
A maelstrom of adventures and challenges contrast with the beautiful crafting of characters and settings and sweep Wind Over Troubled Waters straight onto the `favourites' shelf.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Witty and gloomy 27. April 2012
Von A. Solveigh - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
After a devastating flood the modern world as we know it is taken back to an archaic life where violence predominates and people are struggling for their lives. While humanity is threatening to collapse a group of people are fighting to prevent a major calamity.

Cerridwen, a healer who can see auras is the only hope for the world. She bonds with Trevly, the nature boy who has highly developed senses. Sasha, a haunted wanderer who seeks happiness in materialistic values, and her two 'knights' roam Corn World. When their path crosses that of Cerridwen and Trevly, they must decide if they want to join her quest or seek the treasure the mural in Saint Eyes is supposed to point to. Each character has abilities that turn out to be essential for reaching the mural that is said to help rescue the world.

This fantasy novel is set in a world that is masterly described. A marvelous entertainment, by turns witty and gloomy, full of profound insight into human nature with nicely crafted characters to which I got attached more with every turn of the page.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Hooked! 26. April 2012
Von Silvia Villalobos - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
The story is set in post-apocalyptic Britland, offering a vivid picture of what used to be Great Britain after the big floods have destroyed everything. Civilization has come to an abrupt halt and humanity returns to the times when day-to-day survival was hard work. In this world, Cerridwen embarks on a journey to Saint Eyes, fulfilling a promise to her mother. Both have a gift to see into the past, and this gift tells them of a mural pointing to a better future for Britland. Along the way, Cerridwen meets Trevly, whose gift is to communicate with nature, and a group of people all very different, and all so well described they feel like friends to the reader.

It is very easy to picture the characters in this fantasy world, the description of man, animal and nature. Each stop on the way to Saint Eyes is a new adventure. The fight for survival, the worst and best of humanity, are portrayed in such rich detail it's impossible to put the book down.

I highly recommend this book, the first in a series. The story is a treat for readers of any genre, not only those who enjoy fantasy. Although impossible to know how Britland and its inhabitants would look like, the writers rise to the challenge, giving us a world so foreign, yet so familiar.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Wind Over Troubled Waters 9. Juni 2012
Von Jennifer Killby - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch|Verifizierter Kauf
Wind Over Troubled Waters is a delight to read. Cerridwen will capture your heart from the beginning. Her kind giving nature in a brutal unfair world will inspire those who read it. The other friends she meets on the way are the right mix of talent, brute, and exquisite elegance that balances out the world they travel through. You'll love the tender way Edith and Francene weave their words to form a poetic view of a world gone terribly wrong. This book is a definite read for anyone of any age and for those who are looking for something different.

I enjoyed every minute of it.

4.0 von 5 Sternen A Charming Adventure 3. Mai 2012
Von Lynne H, - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Wind Over Troubled Waters is a charming adventure across postdiluvian Britland, where humankind has been reduced to brutal, tribal living. Might makes right unless Cerridwen and her friends can bring about a fairer future. The excitement of their challenges is matched by the beauty of the authors' elegant, lyrical prose.
