Book Description:

What if all you knew about fairy tales was wrong?

Sixteen year old Loki Blackstar is no Prince Charming. His mother is a ghost and his only friend is a red ’55 Cadillac. He looks like an Angel but acts like jerk. No wonder he has been banned from Heaven.
Loki has one thing going for him; a rare gift: He is a Dreamhunter; one of the few in the world who can kill immortal demons in their dreams.
When Loki is called to kill a sixteen-year-old vampire girl he is pulled into the magical but dangerous world of Sorrow, an island in the middle of nowhere.
What he discovers is the real Snow White...a girl who knows when to kiss and when to kill, living in an ancient castle and feeding on local teens.
Snow White is a beautiful monster girl filled with rage, with an epic untold story, the one which the Brothers Grimm had forged to conceal the truth about fairy tales.
Mysteriously, after all attempts by previous vampire hunters have failed to kill Snow White, she lets Loki live, and whispers two words in his ears; two words that will change their lives forever.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Worth The Wait... 23. Juni 2013
Von Mercedes J. - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

There's not much I can add to the other 75+ glowing reviews of this book, but I absolutely recommend it. If you've read the prequels, then you're obviously going to read this, the first novel full novel of the actual series. I got very impatient waiting for Mr. Jace to finally release this book, but it was worth it. The story is original, the characters are engaging, and the plot moves along at great pace...especially near the end.

Overall, I just love these stories, and can't recommend them enough. I'm really looking forward to the next book in the series. I would love to spend just one hour inside the head of Cameron Jace...where he comes up with some of this stuff, I'll never know, but the guy is definitely a born storyteller!

From the first time I've seen the prequels come by in my "recommended" list, I've been hooked. Cameron Jace is an extraordinary writer if it comes to clever connections, interesting points of view and a story so well written it is amazing! All your favourite characters of the Grimm fairy tales (and some others) pay a visit in the prequels and I have been waiting very patiently for this first book to come out.
This book is amazingly well written. If you're from America, you're in for a twist because not everything is as you're used to in this story. In this story you meet Loki Blackstar, a dreamhunter who is going on an incredible adventure. As I do not want to say too much in case I accidentally do a "spoiler" I will just say this:
If you LOVE a well written story, that has multiple levels, clever thought out plots, is unpredictable, exciting to read, really good connections made with rhymes and history in the real world as we know it and with an incredible depth to the characters in it, my suggestion is to ABSOLUTELY GET THIS BOOK!

I read it in one day and I loved it. I do really suggest to read the prequels as well since they will bring more depth to this story, but dont worry if you haven't read those or want to read them after, you will still be able to understand exactly what is going on ;)

3.0 von 5 Sternen The long awaited novel length entry into the Grimm Diaries series! 17. Juli 2013
Von Joe Hempel - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition

Snow White Sorrow is the long awaited first full length novel into the Grimm Diaries series by Cameron Jace. He has put out several prequel stories over the past months leading up to this to help introduce characters. So the question begs to be answered; was it worth the wait?

It's no secret that I've been hard on Cameron Jace for his work. It's not because I think he's a terrible person or bad writer, but it's because I believe in what he's doing, and I want to see the best possible product come from him. He's a top seller in Amazon, has droves upon droves of fans, and sometimes, I think he feels pressure to get something out just to appease his fans. This book was supposed to come out sometime in January or February, and I'm so glad he didn't give in to the pressure and waited until June. The book isn't perfect, but it's far and away the best technical work Cameron Jace has put out in the series. It shows that he took his time and really tried to make an extremely solid story.

We'll start by saying that you don't need to read the prequels in order to understand what's going on. It will probably help you understand motivations or make it easier to get into the characters knowing the back story or where things may go, but it is entirely up to you, the reader. For that reason the book does re-hash a little what is already written. It's a good primer if you've forgotten or just skipped over the prequels.

I recently had the honor of hosting a blog post about cover design by Farah Evers. She talked about good cover vs good art, and in my opinion, Cameron Jace has a top notch cover artist. The cover draws you in, and is appealing to the eye. It's something that, if it were in print, would probably catch your eye on the shelf.

The story reminds me a bit of a mix of The Never Ending Story and The Princess Bride. Adventure and discovery of the world around Loki and also about Loki himself is central to this book. On his travels to the land called Sorrow you'll get incredible descriptions of fantastic locations, and you'll meet your favorite fairy tale characters and even those that aren't from the Grimm world of stories. Just don't expect them to be who you think they are. According to Cameron Jace, these are the truth behind the lies of the Brothers Grimm. It's well crafted and easy to follow. He takes care not to introduce too many characters at one time, though there will be a lot of names thrown at you by the time the book is ended, and most of them are pretty important, because they are all interconnected.

Let's get into the characters and how they are presented. Cracked Fairy Tales have become a bit of pop-culture interest with the success of Once Upon a Time, Grimm, and the upcoming Once Upon a Time in Wonderland TV Shows, and while those stay kind of true to the original content, Cameron Jace does something different and makes them into things that you wouldn't know. He does it in a way that makes sense though. It's not just thrown out that Snow White is really a vampire, he goes about it in a way that makes think "hmm...that makes a lot of sense." He does his research, and he pays homage to the original content and the mythology of each of them. If you read the Glossary you will get a snapshot of each character and a little bit of history beyond the book.

I said earlier that the book isn't with out problems, and so I'll get into that a little bit now. The first thing that bothered me is the use of language. It's a young adult book, but while each character has their own way about them, they all seem to talk about the same. I don't get a sense of differentiation between the voices. All the side characters are kind of silly, and use over the top descriptions and dialogue. For instance: "you are awesome-flavored sweetheart." The word awesome is used by every character just about, and the same slang is used by each character as well. A little bit of separation between the use of the slang between characters could have gone a long way to separating the characters into their own distinct voices. I didn't feel like these were the same characters as in the prequels.

The one thing that you'll be glad to know is that all the spelling errors that plagued the prequels are just about gone. The grammatical errors aren't as glaring here either. This is why I stated this was technically the best he's put out. I still think the prequels are a bit better overall, but this was a much easier read and the lack of errors kept you immersed in the story.

The Bottom Line: This isn't a bad book by an stretch of the imagination. It's fun to read, and it's fun to see what he does with the fairy tale characters that we all know and love. Taking care to get the history right, and then incorporating his own ideas into the history was a very wise move on Cameron Jace's part. Had the research not been there, the book would just be silly all around.

The pacing is well done, and the locales are described perfectly. You don't feel like you aren't getting all sorts of info that you don't need.

I'll be 100% honest here though. I didn't get the same feeling with this as the prequels. It feels like the book was written for an even younger audience than intended.

5.0 von 5 Sternen the book of beautiful lies :) 31. Mai 2013

From the first page this was a book that hooked me. I found it a new and interesting take on the classic tale of Snow White. The plot was well thought out and full of pleasant surprises that if you have read the sequels you may see before they are revealed. Don't worry if you havent, it isn't necessary to enjoy this book. My only complaint is that i wanted it to continue. The characters were like old friends. I for one am eagerly awaiting anything from Cameron Jace on this delightful series.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Minikin Love :) 31. Mai 2013
Von Jessica - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

I LOVED IT! It is so easy to get lost in this world. The characters are so easy to love even the goofy nerdy Axle. It is very interesting how they compliment each other so well. When Axle is at his weakest Loki picks him up and when Loki is at his weakest Axle snaps him out of it. Loki's personality and sense of humor crack me up. I definitely had quite a few laughing out loud moments, where my kids were giving me funny looks.

The descriptions are so vivid you can picture in your mind the characters. They are such a interesting bunch. You can't help but love them. Fable with her witchy cuteness, Axle with his geeky heroism, and Loki who hits you on so many levels of humanity.

The inner turmoil of Loki can be related to so easily. Does he dwell in the past or look forward and see what he can create? Does he forget the past and become who he wants to be? Every person deals with this at some point in their life. It's so hard to tell what's right and wrong who is good and evil. It is very hard to judge a book by it's cover.

I enjoyed so many parts its hard to pick my favorite few. I loved trying to figure out who the characters were and what their fairy tale selves are. Big Bad and Paw Paw were awesomely portrayed. It was fun especially when they were revealed and it was a ohhh I get it now moment, how you snuck in details that were later revealed very important.

The food was so neat. It was amazing how a town thrived so much on Snow White yet "people" wanted her dead.

The ending definitely came through it makes you wonder how far ahead this was planned. I won't give anything away but is most definitely jaw dropping. Can't wait for the next in the series.
