Robinson, by interviewing many excelling students, compiled this beautiful book with the ultimate method to approach any subject in life, but especially in school.
This book was an eye-opener for me. I can finally see why I didn't do good in my elementary and high school years.
School isn't designed to teach independent learning or even independent thinking. It rather pushes students into passivity, depriving them of their natural infantile abilities to learn by themselves and explore the world with its riches of knowledge.
No one is the best teacher as yourself. This is just one of the 12 principles Robinson devised for the smart student to keep in mind constantly while attending school and using his method. Robinson not only introduces a new learning method, but also stresses the need for a change of attitude. The 12 principles form the foundation for this and should be greatly appreciated by everyone. They are empowering and liberating.
Don't think this is just another 'How to...' book. It doesn't give you ten easy steps for success. It rather teaches you what genuine learning really is. It brings you back to the joy of learning which many lose when passing through school and once had as a little child.
Buy this book and receive the driving force of natural and genuine learning. You will see how school works and be equipped to play the game with success and, most importantly, joy! I urge anyone to buy it, even if they are not attending school, university, or any different sort of educational facility. The method is universal, useable for anything that wants to be learned, and excessively rewarding.

Robinson's manifesto on learning changed the way I viewed my education forever. And no, I'm not on the payroll!! I am a 2nd year medical student who found that the hours that I studied at times seemed wasted when I came to an exam. After being frustrated by little yield from my studies I found this book. The system helped me to focus my studies as well as prepare me for present and final exams. My grades in med school went from mid 70's to high 80's, low 90's. Without a doubt this book will change the way you view your learning forever.

" What Smart Students Know " von Adam Robinson ist ein ausgezeichnetes Buch. Es enthält Lernstrategien, die bewährt, effektiv und zeitsparend sind. Manch heller Schüler wird seinen Lehrer zur Verzweiflung bringen, wenn er diese Methoden anwendet. Weil er hier tatsächlich denken lernt. Beispiel: man solle sich fragen:" What`s the big picture here?" Mit genau dieser Frage trieb ich zu Schulzeiten seligen Angedenkens Fachidioten in die Verdüsterung. Intuitiv benutzt jeder gute Kopf ganz von selbst die eine oder andere dieser Methoden. Natürlich ist dies Buch politisch inkorrekt. Wer nämlich schon hat - Neugierde, Eigeninitiative, Aktivität, -
dem wird gegeben. Wer vom Hunger des Wissenwollens getrieben ist, lernt hier einen Quantensprung zu tätigen.
Selbst wenn jemand nur das curriculum für eine Prüfung durchzieht, die ihn eigentlich nicht weiter interessiert, wird ihm dieses Buch 1. Zeit sparen und 2. ziemlich sicher sogar Interesse für das Fachgebiet wecken.
Als Parallellektüre empfehle ich Tony Buzan, den Entdecker des Mindmapping.
