When will the world end? Is there a New World Order Coming? Who is the Antichrist? Why is there a hell? Why does Satan even exist? What is the nature of God? Why am I here? Where did I come from? How old is the Universe? How and why was it created? Who or what are the Illuminati? What about demons, ghosts, and aliens? How did I end up in paradise instead of the pit? What if you could know the answers to life's greatest questions? What if you could know the future? This would be the ultimate journey for most, a virtuous and wondrous trip through space and time to answer the big questions and experience the glory of heaven and Earth. But through the eyes of the often irreverent and confused George Somerset, it is a sad, horrific, and satirical misadventure, a black comedy for Christians and nonbelievers alike. Read the first few pages and begin a journey you will never forget...

A fun way to read about religion. I could see both believers and nonbelievers enjoying this book. A very unique and refreshing take on the Bible and its lessons. The author has a great sense of humor and he does a wonderful job at adding fun into the mix. The author has a unique way of looking at things and its both highly entertaining and educational at the same time.

You follow George as he checks out heaven and explores a number of theories along the way. It's a little mix of fiction and nonfiction with plenty of humor in between. George spends a lot of time in a library exploring life's questions and meeting different people and reflects on his own life. Great read and I highly recommend it!

I was never too interested in politics, till I started watching Jon Stewart's The Daily Show. Jon made politics funny and interesting, and gradually I began to learn more about it, and today I'm a political junkie. This book, “What the Hand” by Todd Stockwell may yet succeed in making a non-religious person like me interested in religion.

Todd tackles religion, talks about God and the Holy Bible in the same way that Stewart covers politics, and in this way, makes the book highly appealing to a younger readership. “What the Hand” is unique, and refreshingly different. It makes the Holy Bible sound so much fun!

The book tries to offer an answer in a funny way, but from the Christian point of view to so many questions most of us have about religion and spirituality – what's heaven and what's hell, what's Rapture, what are angels and demons, what are ghosts, what really is God's plan and why does God allow so much injustice in this world if His Will is supreme.

Through his protagonist, George Somerset, who has landed in heaven, writer Todd offers his own specific observations on so many things – popular conspiracy theories such as the JFK assassination, UFO sightings, Barack Obama's Presidency and what it may eventually lead us to, the 2008 economic crisis and so much more. Todd is obviously a highly opinionated man, but his opinions are unique and highly readable.

We get a ringside view of heaven through the eyes of George, who is a good man at heart who loves his daughter more than anything else in the world, but was a petty cheat, fornicator, gambler when on Earth. We read all about how the world comes to an end, about the Rapture and the Tribulation and so many other things foretold in Biblical prophecies.

The dry, deadpan humor used by the writer Todd is very reminiscent of the great Mark Twain, and I was fascinated by how he has simplified such complex and boring religious stuff into something so much fun and interesting. This is a special book.

This book is unlike anything I've ever read. It is an odd mix of fiction and non-fiction with a satirical edge. It is the story of George Somerset, a man struggling with his past, who has landed in heaven (or the New Kingdom) by the skin of his neck. He spends his time reading at a place called the Hall of Knowledge, a giant library containing the answers to life's big questions. He moves around heaven meeting different people while he recounts his troubled life.

I found it a quick read, and I wanted more. I loved the dry humor and the way he weaves historical events and wacky conspiracy theories. The book sometimes jumps around too much, but is well worth reading. I learned a lot about end times prophecy.

Wow!! What a fantastic read. This book should be a movie lol.
Political, spiritual, historical, all with a good dollop of 'tongue in cheek'.
I think everyone will get something out of reading this regardless of their interests.
It's going to change the way I watch future world events that's for sure :)
4.0 von 5 Sternen An entertaining tale about the rapture and apocalypse 22. November 2014

"What the Hand" is a book that normally would not have been on my radar but it was recommended by a friend. I read it and found it to be thoroughly entertaining and interesting. This is a work of fiction that does not fit into a particular writing box: it is a book about the Bible, about heaven and hell, it's a horror story, a love story, a science fiction tale, a dark comedy and a political commentary all wrapped into one neat package.

The novel is written in the first person by the protagonist (George Somerset) who is, as the book jacket says, the "unhappiest man in paradise." George's story chronicles his struggles to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. He's still living on "Old Earth" after the rapture, nuclear war, and a New World Order run by the minions of the evil Illuminati who hunt George and his fellow survivors.

Stockwell's writing style is biting, sarcastic, and (from the hero's point of view) self-deprecating. George Somerset considers himself to be a cowardly scumbag, unworthy of a place in God's kingdom in heaven. As the author describes George's physical and spiritual journey, he injects commentary about current and past events, conspiracy theories and entertaining tales about the missteps of his life on earth.

The lurid writing about the horrors that George and his group endure made me think that this book could be adapted into a screenplay, filled with state-of-the-art CGI about demons on earth and the War of Armageddon.

As the book jacket says, this can be enjoyed by believers and non-believers alike.
