As society gathers at Kingstag Castle for the wedding of the year, matrimony is in the air. But who will be the bride? With swoonworthy lords, witty ladies, eccentric relatives, a gaggle of free-spirited girls, not to mention the world’s best high perch phaeton, it’s a recipe for mayhem — and romance. Award winning, best-selling authors Katharine Ashe, Caroline Linden, Miranda Neville and Maya Rodale serve up delectable Regency fun and a sexy contemporary twist in this anthology of original novellas. Four authors, four couples, four deliciously romantic surprises. When it comes to love, anything can happen…

*NEW!* Don't miss the latest anthology from The Lady Authors, a contemporary twist on the Regency wedding house party: At the Billionaire's Wedding, available now!

At the Duke's Wedding features:

"That Rogue Jack" by Maya Rodale
Jack, Lord Willoughby is charming, handsome, and utterly irresponsible. In other words, he’s the worst person to entrust with the ducal wedding ring. Miss Henrietta Black is prim, proper and the ideal person to help find the priceless family heirloom that’s gone missing… as long as she isn’t distracted by Jack’s gorgeous smile and tantalizing attempts at seduction. They MUST find the ring before the wedding… if they aren’t too busy falling in love.

"P.S. I Love You" by Miranda Neville
Handsome, inarticulate Frank Newnham asks for his cousin Christian's help when he woos Rosanne Lacy by letter. Rosanne falls for Frank's delicious prose, but when they meet in person at the duke's wedding party, Rosanne can't understand why Frank seems so ... dull. And why is she drawn to the dark brooding Earl of Bruton, with his scarred face and air of melancholy?

"When I Met My Duchess" by Caroline Linden
Gareth Cavendish, Duke of Wessex, believes he’s chosen the perfect bride… until he meets her sister and lightning strikes—literally! Now he’s the only member of society dreading the wedding of the season. Or is he? Cleo Barrows can’t fathom why her knees weaken every time the handsome duke approaches, or why her sister isn’t in the clouds at the prospect of marrying him. But the more often wedding plans throw Cleo and Gareth intimately together, the faster time is running out to turn the celebration of the summer into the scandal of the year.

"How Angela Got Her Rogue Back" by Katharine Ashe
When gorgeous Lord Trenton Ascot beckons to history grad student Angela Cowdrey from the pages of a comic book, she thinks she’s going crazy. When Trent rescues her from a lake and she claims she’s from the future, he knows he is. But a blackmailer is threatening Trent’s family and Angela is determined to help. While unraveling the mystery of her time-travel trip to the duke’s wedding, this modern girl and Regency lord just might discover a passion that defies centuries.

HASH(0x918a7cfc) von 5 Sternen Very cleverly done!!! 20. Juni 2013

I enjoyed this book, first, because the writing of all the novels is flawless. Second, excellent idea of these wonderful writers to tie together the stories and use the characters in all of them even if in some cases it was "on passing"... or just acknowledging their presence in the castle.
The stories themselves were very nice, sweet love scenes in spite of showing all the passion between the two characters involved. This is what I call "done with exquisite taste".
As I like Victorian and Edwardian novels I thought this would be just one of the many, but it surpassed them all. Again, the writing is what puts the book in the FIVE STAR category.
Highly recommended!

HASH(0x918a7f48) von 5 Sternen Eh... I Expected Better 11. Juli 2013

While I didn't dislike this anthology, I didn't love it either. To be honest, considering the author's involved, I expected a lot better. Maya Rodale in particular is a favorite of mine and yet I found her offering to be not nearly as deep as I expected.

"That Rogue Jack" - unfortunately Ms. Rodale just didn't have enough pages to do either of these characters justice. It's a cute introduction to the anthology, but that's mostly what it is. Cute. Jack's basically an idiot who can't remember where he put THE ring... the heirloom that is supposed to be the wedding ring for the Duke's wedding in a little over a week, and at the beginning of each section of the story we get a little tease that tells us a little bit more about where the ring likely ended up. This becomes frustrating after awhile. Why? Because of Henrietta.

I mostly liked Henrietta. She's a poor orphan who is companion to the Duke's great-great (and very eccentric) aunt Sophriana. She knows that she has nowhere to go if she's turned out of this position and so she does everything she can to be prim and proper and not risk her place... up until she is charged with getting the ring from reckless Jack and all of the sudden she's being swept up into kissing and doing all sorts of things that could ruin her and get her dismissed from her position - especially cuz they STILL CAN'T FIND THE RING. Considering that she thinks her livelihood depends on finding this ring you'd think she'd be a little bit less obsessed with Jack and little bit more obsessed with actually finding the ring.

Both characters end up coming off as more caricatures than anything else. They just didn't have enough depth.

"P.S. I Love You" is an obvious play off of the famous play "Cyrano de Bergerac." This story drew me in a little bit more because we get more of both characters - Rosanne and Frank are exchanging letters, but Frank's letters are written by his cousin Christian. Frank loves Rosanne completely but he doesn't have any more depth than Jack - unfortunately Rosanne doesn't realize that because his cousin Christian has quite a bit of depth and it comes out in the letters. One thing leads to another... and when Christian meets Rosanne he falls for her too.

Out of all them, I think this one was probably my favorite, but it was frustrating too because of Frank. He gets hurt because he truly does have feelings for Rose... but there is no happy ending for him. Sure he was kind of oafish, but I hated how things turned out for him. We get a hint that he MIGHT find happiness in the future, but I would have liked to have gotten a bit more than that. Still, Christian is delicious, Rosanne is delightful, and their storyline was perfectly fitted to the length of the story.

"When I Met My Duchess" was, again, ALMOST satisfying except that we didn't get to see the repercussions of the HEA!!! There's a TON of set-up about the strain between the family members within the Grey family, especially about Cleo who eloped and now owns her own trade as a wealthy and independent widow. Her family treats her awful and while I enjoyed the scene where she finally gives them whatfor, the truth of the matter is that I wanted to see how they reacted when she got her HEA! If anyone needed a comeuppance it was her parents, especially after how shamefully they've treated Cleo, but even with the epilogue we never find out if they've apologized or come around or anything. Be that as it may, Cleo and Gareth are wonderful characters and I loved the way their story turned out; they were both so easy to fall in love with. I wouldn't have minded an entire book about them honestly - I think that out of all the novellas this was the only one that really should have been a book.

"How Angela Got Her Rogue Back"... well, if you like the time traveling storylines then you'll probably like this one. I'm a bit prejudiced cuz I'm not a fan of those storylines. This one is fairly well done as such things go.

HASH(0x918a7f0c) von 5 Sternen Excellent Read and a Great Value! 13. Juni 2013

I loved this book! I would have loved it for $7.99, and that's saying a lot! Each of the stories was super engaging with great characters and satisfying plots -- no "Why are these people still not together?" feelings reading any of the four. And they were all woven together very skillfully, so that I never felt like I was reading the same old scene over and over again from different POVs. It's rare that I read a romance novel that still has me thinking about the characters a few days later, but this one was like that. Nice!

HASH(0x918aa21c) von 5 Sternen What a great story 15. Juni 2013

I loved this book. I found that once I started, I had to keep going. I had to know what was happening next. The first story is a tale of a lost heirloom wedding ring and the couple that try to find it. The second is a tale of a romance started through letters, but the end result is not what started out. The third tale is of the Duke and his betrothed. He is marrying for duty, not love and when he meets Miss Grey's widowed sister, he is truly at a loss of what to do. The fourth tale is of an unexpected visitor to the wedding and her adventures two hundred years in the past. I loved each of the stories and I wished there was more. I know that I will have to pick up more by these four ladies and I can't wait to start reading more from them. You can't beat the price of this book, I would have paid more.

HASH(0x918aa27c) von 5 Sternen Not for me 17. Juni 2013

My dislike with these novellas is entirely my personal opinion that modern language has no place in historical romances. A few slips I could forgive, but these stories are peppered with contemporary phases. "Interesting, that" , and "Oh yeah" to name a few. I find that these sort of errors pull me completely out of the story and ruin my enjoyment. It's very disappointing because the stories themselves were fun and quite interesting.

I won't even mention the situations some of the heroines got themselves into, definitely did not pass the regency rules litmus test.

I recommend this anthology to anyone not put off by prodigious use of contemporary language in a historical romance. I can't tolerate it.
