Good beginner's guide to watercolour sketching 17. Oktober 2013
Von Parka - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
Watercolor Sketching: An Introduction is a book for beginners looking to use watercolours for their sketches. The emphasis is on observational drawing, drawing on location and recording what you see. As such, you should at least be able to sketch to get the most out of the book.

There are many brief but helpful exercises that are easy to follow along, with step by step pictures. The examples are beautiful and the instructions are casual.

It is more of a watercolour instructional book than a sketching book. Techniques taught here are more brief though. Sometimes you do feel like you want to find out more, such as more details on mixing colours, using shapes for composition.

It's a beginners book and a good one at getting you started. You'll probably outgrow what you learn from the book and seek out more advanced books soon, which is a good thing.

Excellent resource for beginners in the field. 17. April 2013

Paul Laseau has created some of the best books on Graphic communication - using sketching and diagramming to explore concepts and ideas. This small volume expands the arsenal of exploratory tools by using Watercolor Sketching to explore not only ideas, but the means of experiencing the environment around us. It is a companion to Freehand Sketching: An Introduction and as stated in the Introduction: "... introduces this medium (watercolor sketching) as an instrument for stimulation and growth of creativity for designers."

I have been using this methodology in my practice of Architectural and Landscape design for the past few decades, and am extremely grateful that Paul Laseau has created this wonderful book to share the process with students and professionals as well. It is very well written, beautifully illustrated, and filled with valuable information. Highly recommended.

Good watercolor book for those wanting to sketch in a different medium. Illustrations in color. Also really like his Freehand Sketching book.

Better than his ink sketch book... 14. März 2014

It's not a thorough how to book; it's quick and fast tip bits; some of his sample paintings would take a novice 20 minutes and a professional 5 minutes to complete. I'll keep it for a short while then it'll be donated to the library. What few 101 instructional samples there are, they are clear, simple, and concise and over in 3 to 4 illustrated frames. No special techniques or tips or tricks of the trade exposed here. There isn't enough to seriously teach watercolor painting. Still, I like this book much more than his "Freehand Sketch" book; with this book you get some sense of the enjoyment from the author--like he felt or put some effort in putting this book together while the "Freehand Sketch" had a "can't-wait-to-finish-this" hurried through value. Though I enjoy this book, one can learn more from watching watercolor painting on youtube. I am not disappointed, but not jumping up and down with inspirational appreciative awe. You don't learn much from this book--it's really for people who know of and like his work. It's probably okay for a quick beginner but not a serious art student. Again, I like his work and buys his books as patronage.
