My husband and I chanced upon this book in a little book store in Union Square. We live around 45 mins away from the City and love to explore the different neighborhoods. We used to do this just with a regular map in hand, usually based our route on where we want to stop for eating and whether we had a show to catch. However with this book, we explore the neighborhoods more systematically, and also notice all the major and not-so-major landmarks. Also, it points out some mom-and-pop stores that have been in SF neighborhoods for a long time. Yesterday while walking Castro, my husband and I spent almost 30 mins in the Cliff's Variety Store that the book talked about!
Pros:
+ Great easy to follow walking routes for each neighborhood with breakout maps
+ Usually recommends a place to park although we try to see if we can do it cheaper or for free
+ Points out a lot of quirky and offbeat landmarks, as well as major historical landmarks
+ Concise 2-3 pages for each neighborhood, walks are short enough for anyone to do with stops
Cons:
+ My husband was hoping there would be an easy to use electronic version of the book so that we didn't have to carry the book around
+ Recommendations for place to eat along the way would be nice!
