Kurzbeschreibung

From NEW YORK TIMES bestselling romance author Kasey Michaels comes the first in her LOVE IN THE REGENCY series.

SINS OF THE FATHER…

Jack Coltrane grew up with his father’s red-haired tomboy ward Meredith Fairfax chasing after him, always begging to tag along in his adventures during the years they resided at Coltrane House. Jack was variously annoyed, flattered, and as the years passed and childhood faded, both he and Merry sensed a slow change in their relationship.

Friendship, blossoming into love. Love for each other, and a combined love for Coltrane House, fast falling into disrepair by his neglectful father. But one day the estate would be his, and Jack and Merry would make it beautiful again, raise their children there, and live happily ever after.

Theirs was the perfect dream, until Jack’s father took him aside to tell him something that sent his son fleeing from Coltrane House, away from Merry, perhaps never to return. Ah, love… why is it never easy?

Oh… and then there’s Jack’s quite singular friend from America, and possibly a pair of matchmaking ghosts. Ghosts? Well, certainly – why not? Everyone loves a happy ending!

3.0 von 5 Sternen Good, but sequel is better 5. Dezember 2001
Von camille - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
Waiting for You is missing one of Michaels' main ingredients -- sparkling, witty dialogue which creates character development. The 2 main characters are Jack and Meredith who grow up together as the son and ward respectively of an abusive, neglectful father (who manages to construct a Machiavellian plot while being a perpetual drunkard and then suffering from syphillis. Yes, this is a bit hard to believe.) The plot is largely constructed through prose and attempts too much -- the story of the main characters'lives from the ages of 7 and 6 months, the addition of 2 incessently-quoting Shakespearean actors turned nursemaids who then become interfering ghosts, an American Indian friend of Jack's from his 5 year financial-empire building foray into the New World (which is never explicated), a nefarious estate manager, and a secondary character, Kipp, who is in love with Meredith. Michaels needed to edit this book down to the main ingredients, begin it when Jack and Merry are 22 and 17 respectively when the story really begins and construct dialogue to keep the story moving rather than relying on descriptive prose and an excess of tertiary characters. At the end of this book, I did not feel that I knew the characters very well, though I had read a description of much of their lives. This book's secondary character, Kipp, is the main charcter of the sequel, Someone to Love. Even in Waiting to Love, Kipp seems to be the most interesting character. The sequel, therefore, is the much better book: the dialogue is a joy to read, Kipp becomes more complex and yet clear as the story evolves, and even though we are reading a Regency it all seems believable. Buy Someone to Love and read Waiting for You only to learn about Kipp before that book begins.

Waiting for You (Love in the Regency Book 1)
great story, sentimental, plenty of drama, and no cliffhanger at the end, as the writer nicely ties up all the lose ends, ...so I share it with all my friends and they all enjoyed it, but one point every friend made, and they were all of different religions or not religious at all, was, What's up with all the religious expletives? All of the taking the Lord's name in vain ? Don't you own a Thesaurus LOL.......Come on..there are soooo many words that can be used instead of ''Christ'' and no one used the phrase ''Christ on a crutch'' in the era that the story was set in...heh heh...this is given the genre of historical romance, the woman's clothing is described as having bodices and long skirts. I did find myself skipping over the rambling thoughts and highly detailed background descriptions, to get to the conversations, of the characters.... The only lose end that really stood out was that one after the bad guys got tied up, no one went to get the constable , and they were not taken away.....everyone just went to bed...Maybe the writer was tired of writing so much detail at that point, because very soon after that, the story quickly ended. I'd say, the funniest part of the book is where Squire Headly starts out bragging about how Christian is wife is and elapses into to becoming more candid about it, bursting out that it's enough to make him drink, having to listen to all the sermons the wife reads aloud every evening and the writer gives, the other character the thought that if the neighbors really were Christian, why didn't they help the neglected children, since they were aware enough to criticize it.. The other thing I noticed was that the write didn't use the word Vicar. but in that period and location, there were no Ministers, or Pastors, in England....I enjoyed the substory about the Indian . If the writer had even used the alternatives of ''Mercy!'', ''Glory be'', ''My Word''. ''My Goodness'', Yeegads'', ''Gadzukes'' ''Oh my!'', or ''For pete's sake'', instead of just always exclaiming ''Christ'', I would have given the story all 5 stars, in the rating

4.0 von 5 Sternen caring and loving 4. August 2014
Von Tassy - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
The tale begins with Cluny and Clancy, two traveling Shanksearian players, paid to perform at a drunken house party. Trying to find a safe place away from the riotous party they come across a scared boy of seven and a six month old baby. Cluny and Clancy stay at the mansion long after everyone leaves to care for the children. The first part of the book is devoted to the children, Merry and Jack. The last part is about Merry and Jack's problems after Jack's return to the mansion after five years. So much deceit from someone they thought to have been a help. Also two ghosts are involved that show much love to the main characters. The first part of the book was a little slow going for me even though it skipped through a number of years. The latter half was much better as you realize who the villain is and keep reading to see if you are right. Everything ends happily, even for our two ghosts.

5.0 von 5 Sternen WORTH THE TIME TO WRITE A REVIEW!!!! DEFINITELY A MUST READ! 20. August 2014

I don't take time to write reviews unless something really surprises me. This was such a tender and brilliant tale. It was heart wrenching and it was heartwarming. It was hilarious and it was tender; sweet and romantic. I loved the characters. All of them. The plot was wonderful, the dialogue superb. It was shades of "Hamlet". It was shadows of "A Midsummer Night's dream". It was moments of "A Twelfth Night." The only bad thing is that it finished....Is there a story on Kip?

2.0 von 5 Sternen a hard read with dark plot 4. September 2014

This tale is totally unimaginable to me. I can't fathom where the author is going with this plot. I'm in the sixth chapter now and the basis of the story is still being established. I keep reading, but am having such a difficult time getting truly involved. Generally I really like this author, but I'm ditching the book. Reading needs to be enjoyable, not a chore! The plot is dark, and is slow.
