Format: Taschenbuch

Insgesamt ist „A Walk in the Park“ guter Durchschnitt. Es gibt zwar einige Bücher von Jill Mansell, die mir besser gefallen haben, aber ich musste mich über keine der Figuren ärgern.

Ein schönes Buch, mit vielen schönen Momenten! Vielleicht zum Teil etwas zu optimistisch, aber trotzdem noch einigermassen real. Schön zu lesen.

Jill Mansell you are a LEGEND! 16. Februar 2012
Von Best Crime Books - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Another year has passed since I read one of Jill's books and I was so looking forward to her new one. I got mine in the post and realised that it was in usual Mansell style a reasonable sized book with over 400 pages and a gorgeous cover inviting me to start reading! Within the first four chapters I realised that my plans for the evening were finished. There would be no cooking or cleaning done, all that would happen is that traipse back and forth to the kettle whilst still reading the book.

Lara Carson starts the story off with a bang. She left her town at 16 and following events that unfolded has now decided to move back and start over. At the same time, her old friend Evie is getting ready to marry her man Jamie. However, within the first quarter of the book, both women are up to their eyes in drama.

It is quite hard to review a book without giving away a lot of the story but all I will say about the storyline is that it certainly won't disappoint. It had a lot going on and kept me on tenterhooks all the way through. As for the characters, this is what Jill Mansell does best. Lara and Evie were lovely women and you warm to both of them right away. In addition to them there is an eclectic and interesting bunch of people that all feature heavily in the story.

Gigi was an adorable character and actually reminded me of somebody I know. We meet Lara's aunt Nettie, Don who owns jewellery shop in Bath and superstar rapper Enjay Seven. Like I said before the storyline I can't mention but what I can say is that the scenes between Enjay and Harry had me laughing out loud. My favourite character (and a pretty central one too) was Flynn. He sounds like a truly wonderful bloke and I kept my fingers crossed that things worked out how I wanted the whole way through the book.

Overall this book is one of the best Jill Mansell has written and I loved every bit of it. Having read it in under a day I can only say that I suggest you get yourself a copy and settle yourself in for the night with a hot cuppa and a duvet. What better way to spend an evening? This book is a true testament to why Jill Mansell has been a successful author for twenty years. As for myself, I will settle back and wait another long year for the next one.

Just okay but still very good. Love this author-no spoiler review 29. Januar 2013
Von Wendy S. Domroes - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
I have read Take a Chance on Me, Rumour Has It, An Offer you Can't Refuse, Millie's Fling, Miranda's Big Mistake, Nadia Knows Best, Perfect Timing and Staying at Daisy's and absolutely loved them. However, as I was reading the book it felt different, like not her style. I actually went back on my ebook to make sure it was the author I thought it was and I actually did that because it seemed to be written in a different style. Anyway I like her writing. It was very predictable and a very light read but nice. Usually her books are witty and more funny and just different and I read them so quick but this was I just took my time. I did read it to the end so it was not boring. I definitely will continue my quest to read all of her books because I love them but this one was just different in my opinion. For more books I like see my other Amazon reviews and my pinterest page under contemporary romance (red heart) and under w d.

I like the book to relax with and as an escape. It is not too gushy like many romantic novels. I especially enjoy the little elements of suspense and the way in which Mansell reveals important story lines, like the information about James.

Another delightful slice of British life 5. März 2013
Von Book lover -Philadelphia - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
Don't read this book if you're only interested in great literature. Don't read it if you only like non-fiction. However, if you enjoy a wonderful escape to England, understated writing, busy plots with three-dimensional people and loads of warmth then this is the book for you. It's totally absorbing and just a delight. While I loved the main characters, my favorite was the heroine's daughter Gigi. More mature than almost any other nineteen year-old, insightful, rebellious and impulsive - and altogether delightful. She's the rare teen-ager who isn't bratty. Just great....and not easy to put down, as I finished it in one day.

Mansell's style is similar to Katie Fforde's so if you like Fforde, you'll definitely like Mansell. I've read all of Mansell's other books and this one may be my favorite. Recommended.

Not my favorite Mansell 16. März 2013
Von Naida M. - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
Lara Carson left her hometown of Bath eighteen years ago without really telling a soul where she was off to. She ended up living with her Aunt Nettie in Keswick.
Now that Lara is back in town to attend her fathers funeral, she runs into her old bestie Evie and ends up being invited to her wedding. Lara also runs into her old boyfriend Flynn. Flynn is shocked to see her and still very much intrigued by her. Now that he's finally come in contact with her again, Flynn is determined to stay in touch and get some answers.

Without giving too much away, Lara has some explaining to do as to where she has been all this time and what she's been up to. In the midst of all these reunions, there's heartbreak, long kept secrets are being revealed, new and old romances are blooming, American rappers are in the mix and reality programs are being filmed.
Lara has also inherited a house from her deceased father, her old home in Bath, and she decides to move back there permanently.

A Walk in the Park started off with a bang. I whizzed right through the first hundred pages or so but then the story began to get bogged down with too many different storylines and too many different characters. I don't know, maybe I just wasn't in the right mood for this one.

The book did pick up again towards the end, but I felt like overall, at 448 pages, it was just too lengthy. I think Jill Mansell has a knack for writing fun and quirky characters that you kind of wish you knew in real life. While I enjoyed reading about most of these people, I just wish the story wasn't so long and that it had all been wrapped up sooner.

Sometimes Lara would annoy me, but other times she'd make me laugh out loud. There's a twist as she discovers a long held secret that made me gasp. I really wanted to see how everything would turn out for her.

Flynn was a pretty decent character and I found him to be well fleshed out. His storyline, which revolves around Lara, and his reactions to different situations were the most interesting to me.

Evie. I liked her, and again, the author writes an interesting storyline for her. I was curious as to what would happen. I did however, find it very hard to believe that Evie would welcome Lara with open arms after her eighteen year absence. Eighteen years without seeing an old bestie is a very long time, I hardly think they'd pick right up where they left off.

Maybe I'm being nit picky but the American rapper Mansell adds to the storyline, EnjaySeven, was beyond annoying and just plain ridiculous. "Hey, man, don't be so tetchy. Who d'yall sell these to? You OK with this, by the way?" His dialogue and his accent would make me cringe and I found him to be offensive. He was totally an unnecessary character in my opinion. Bleh.

Also, I have to add that I was so hoping for so much more from the Bath setting. Mansell barely describes it except when mentioning a few town and street names.
Some of the dialogue book was witty, as per Jill Mansell's usual. The ending was slightly predictable, but satisfying nonetheless. I thought the gift Flynn gives Lara at the end was sweet and a nice touch to the storyline.

So overall, I was disappointed with A Walk in the Park. If a few characters were taken out, and the book was about a hundred pages less, I might of enjoyed it more. I had high hopes for this one and I will read Mansell again, as I have enjoyed her work in the past.

"In bed and unable to sleep a couple of hours later, Lara gazed up at the ceiling and prayed this was a situation she could remain on top of. It was necessary to keep concentrating on the ceiling, because every time she closed her eyes all she saw was Flynn. Would her life have been easier if she'd never known him? Sometimes she'd wondered if it was Flynn who'd succeeded in spoiling her for other men."
