This is the first book to cover specifically the history of the space shuttle Discovery, the most storied orbiter in the fleet. No other book has dealt with this subject. It is a very straight forward narrative history of the most storied orbiter in the Space Shuttle fleet. Written with a minimum of technical jargon, it puts the reader on Discovery's flight deck during some of the most important missions of the Space Shuttle era from satellite retrieval, to deployment of the Hubble Space Telescope, to construction of the International Space Station, and the Return to Flight after two tragic losses. The reader will gain knowledge on the history of the Space Shuttle program in general and the shuttle Discovery in particular. You can experience the thrill of space flight from the accounts of those who have been there while flying on Discovery. You can discover the amount of research and scientific discoveries conducted by the Discovery and her crews.

Nice book, but published before the story is finished 4. Januar 2011

I used to work on Space Shuttle Discovery (OV-103) and actually named my RV after Discovery calling her RV-103. I was quite excited to see the book come out, but puzzled as to why it was published when Discovery has yet to fly her 39th and final mission. I understand there will be a flood of shuttle related books coming out as the program ends this year, but I wish the author had waited until after the last flight before publishing so he could include all the missions and a summary of her contributions.

I consider this product to be excellent, but perhaps that is because the author asked and used a stitch I made of the ISS and Discovery in the book, That being said, grab a copy and enjoy it under Discovery at the Udvar-Hazy center to appreciate how hard this majestic craft is.

As a huge Shuttle geek, I had to have this book. It is full of wonderful and detailed information about all of Discovery's missions, including information that was not broadcast during the missions. Another book that I didn't want to put down! If you love the space shuttle, this book is a must have!
