Das Viburnum (Schneeball) ist ein ausgezeichnetes Gartengehölz. Seine besten Vertreter besitzen einen schönen Habitus, blühen ausdauernd (oft mit Nachblüte), besitzen schönes Laub und sind anspruchslos. Wer alles und noch ein bisschen mehr über dieses Gehölz erfahren will, braucht nicht mehr weiter zu suchen: Das neue Buch von Professor Michael Dirr, einem der besten Baumkenner der Welt, enthält nebst einer Einführung Beschreibungen fast aller bekannten gartenwürdigen Viburnum, Dirr ist auch ein ausgezeichneter Fotograf und illustriert seine Artikel mit eigenem Material. Einziger Wermutstropfen: Ohne Englischkenntnisse geht es nicht.

Hier ist Herrn Dirr ein wirklich gutes Buch gelungen. Er bearbeitet alle Schneebälle, die bis zur Abgabe in Kultur waren und zeigt auf, wohin die Züchtung geht. Er interessiert für neue amerikanische Selektionen und vermeidet durch die lückenlose Informationsmenge so manchen Schaden und falsche Platzwahl im Garten.
Auch für Landschaftsarchitekten ein Muss, da Schneebälle im Stadtgrün unbedingt verwendet werden müssen.
Fazit: Unbedingt anschaffen und lernen.

Finally, coverage of an important genus!!

Viburnums are widely acknowledged as some of the most useful garden plants, yet to this point coverage of this group in the horticultural literature has been sparse. As such, this book fills a huge void. And coming from one of the world's most respected woody plant gurus, this tome is most appreciated. Its greatest strength is encyclopedic treatment of the garden worthy species supplemented by quality photographs. While some text appears to be lifted from Dirr's other books, the insight offered by the author is invaluable. Anyone gardening in temperate regions can benefit from including this book in their library.

Great book and photos by an author and grower of this genus with an eye for detail of the plants in USA and UK.
Should be in every Public library and plant references librarys.This reference book culminates by bringing together all the bits and pieces that have been loosely noted in bulletins and other short articles on viburnums.

Great resource for any horticulturist. plantsman or weekend gardener. Varieties can be so hard to correctly identify, Dirr takes out most of the guesswork. Would highly recommend to all.
