The Secret Policeman's Ball -- so heißen Livemusik-Veranstaltungen der Organisation Amnesty International. Auf der gleichnamigen DVD findet der Musik-Fan zum einen einen Zusammenschnitt verschiedener Konzerte aus den Jahren 1979 bis 1991, zum anderen den
Secret Policeman's Third Ball, aufgezeichnet 1987 im London Palladium.
In den Zeiten von Retorten-Bands und Boygroups tut es tatsächlich einmal ganz gut, ehrliche Livemusik zu hören. Ob es Sting ist, der nur mit seiner ausdrucksstarken Stimme und einer Gitarre Gänsehaut beim Publikum verbreitet oder Tom Jones, der zusammen mit einer Liveband die Halle elektrisiert -- die DVD ist meilenweit entfernt vom modernen Einheitssound. Neben den genannten Künstlern treten noch Phil Collins, Pete Townshend, Bob Geldorf, Lisa Stansfield, Daryl Hall, Nik Kershaw, Lou Reed, Eric Clapton und Jeff Beck sowie viele weitere Größen der Musikszene auf. Besonders eindringlich: Peter Gabriel mit dem Titel "Biko".
Bedingt durch das Alter der Aufnahmen ist die Bild- und Tonqualität der DVD sicherlich nicht auf dem neuesten Stand, das tut dem Musikgenuss aber keinen Abbruch. Deshalb trotz fehlenden Bonusmaterials und mittlerer Ton- und Bildqualität eine Empfehlung für Fans von Livemusik! --Ines Heidrich
