Über den Autor
Sir Simon Marsden is an internationally acclaimed photographer who is unequalled in capturing the mysterious spirit of ancient landscapes and romantic ruins. A respected authority on the supernatural, he spent his childhood in two famously haunted manor houses in the depths of the English countryside, with a library of occult books and a father who delighted in telling his children fireside ghost stories. His fascination with photography began when his father gave him a Leica camera for his 21st birthday, and the first roll of film that he shot was of cardboard cut-outs of ghosts that he arranged in tableaux in the garden. He worked in London as an assistant to the Irish photographer Ruan O'Lochlainn, then travelled in the United States and was discovered by a New York gallery owner. Sir Simon's photographs can now be found in the Getty Museum in California, Victoria & Albert Museum in London and Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris, and he has exhibited from Brussels to Tokyo. He has published 11 books, on subjects from US author Edgar Allan Poe, to the ruined great houses of Ireland and, most recently, Ghosthunter: A Journey Through Haunted France. With many appearances on television and radio, his award-winning documentary drama film with John Hurt has also been shown worldwide. Sir Simon is currently working on a new project in Russia, photographing what remains of the palaces and estates of the Russian aristocracy since the Revolution of 1917. He lives in the heart of the Lincolnshire Wolds with his wife and two teenage children.

One to get your teeth into. (Or vice versa!)

You know a book's great when you devour every word despite not being into the topic. I opened this volume by chance. Three days later: finished! A fascinating and evocative work. Amazing piccies beautifully married with highly educative literary allusions. Mandatory if you're into all the new vampire stuff that's around these days. A riveting journey even if you're not. Highly recommended!
Fascinating and eerie photography

Despite the subtitle of the book, this only mentions that wretched fiction series in passing. The book explores the history, literature, and folklore of vampires, with text accompanying Marsden's haunting photography of castles, ruins, abbeys, and various other places and items. Marsden shoots his subjects primarily with infrared film, which lends a spooky atmosphere to the photos.
