Wow - what a blast.
This series is about a young girl- Rosa, half human, half vampire (dhampire) who is exploring the daemon world.
Rosa's is bonded to a full blood vampire (Moroi) called Lissa. Morois also do have special abilities and Lissa in particular, since she can use spirits to heal almost anything to the point of bringing back the dead. Since Lissa saved Rosa's live by using her spirits the telekinetic bond was created. Highly unusaul in the vampire world. Damphire are kind of guardians or bodyguards to the Morois to protect them from Stigoi (evil Vampires) attack.
But enough of the facts, let's get to the question how it pan's out.
Well it has to be said it is kind of a book for women. There is a lot of relations stuff going on, who likes whom, who is conspiring against whom. Sometimes the fact that this plays in a Vampire world is just a minor note on the side. Still even beeing a male, I found this story intrueging and much fun to read.
Book one get's you to know the main characters and how Lissa and Rosa eloped from the academy are beeing dragged back against their will.
Book two and three are very much alike: The better part of the book is about the acamdemy, honing Rosas fighting skills and girls routine. Trying to make bonds, with the gossip, etc. I must confess, not really lame but at times slow in telling. Even though it is good, still the weakest part of the whole set. But in the last quarter the storytelling kicks in overdrive and action nonstopp takes place. This gratyfies for the somewhat slow beginning.
Book four is on a completely different level. From page one on there is Rosa's quest (carefull - spoiler alert) to hunt down Dimitry, who has turned Strigoi (evil Vampire). They promised each other to kill, should one lose his spirit and turn Strigoi. This fourth installment is in my fiew the most powerfull one. A fact which really surpised my a lot since much of the story was derived from the romantic relation between Rosa and Dimitri. And I though since he is "undead" now (end of book 3), there is something missing. Yet the author manages to keep an interesting balance between Rosa's quest, insides into the acamdy through Rosa-Lisa's telekynetic bond, and nice flashbacks to Rosas and Dimirtries evolving ralationship in the past.
So all in all a very refreshing experience and not just for women only. So 5 stars would be in order. Just the somewhat flat story in the beginning of Book 2 and 3 warrant the deduction of one star. Still higly recommended.
