5.0 von 5 Sternen A real eye opener 11. März 2011
Von bernie
Format:Taschenbuch
I began my journey by registering this (QUE) book. I did not need to open a new account as I have registered other QUE books before. I highly recommend you to do the registration as a starting point.

Next step of course is to route around with the online version of the book. It may prove to be very useful as some people learn better through visuals and through hearing descriptions. I have to admit that I've had the iPhone before about the book so a lot of us telling me things that I knew and in that sense I cannot tell if the description would've been good for somebody who is never seen an iPhone.

Bottom line is this book is great for correcting any misconceptions and also forces you to look at functions or apps that you may never run across just because you did not need them. Then when the opportunity arises to use them you will remember that you read this book.

I have an extensive library of books by QUE. However this is my first "using" book and I'm very impressed. I will be searching for "using" books as my primary first source.

Even though there is an index I'm having fun going through the book from cover to cover. I know that you will enjoy this book and get your money's worth within the first 15 min.

4.0 von 5 Sternen If smartphones are not intuitive for you, you need this book 25. Juli 2012
Von Jill Florio - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch|Vine Kundenrezension eines kostenfreien Produkts (Was ist das?)
I vastly prefer to read the written word in book form, which is why I appreciate a physical manual like this, instead of the online one Apple offers with the iPhone. I like to have a book open to the chapter I need, where I can highlight passages, make notes in the margins, and flip pages around with my hands.

The iPhone might be intuitive for some people. For me, I discover new options all the time (after years of Iphone ownership!) from idly clicking things in rare moments of boredom. In this sense, the book is very needed and useful. I often have no idea what the capabilities are for many common applications, only stumbling across useful abilities by accident. This manual tells me not only what my smartphone is capable of, but clearly explains how to do those things.

The screenshots are clear, but unfortunately rendered in black and white. Still, they have good captions, are nicely marked, and explained well in the accompanying text. Directions to carry out tasks are clearly indicated (i.e., tap Bookmarks, doubletap History, spread the photo, drag the image, that sort of thing). Grayed out sidebars offer tips for troubleshooting and various user options.

Especially useful for me are the chapters on manipulating photos, playing music and videos, voice dialing, setting up conference calls, and mapping locations. I honestly didn't know I could make a call just by saying someone's name! There are also a whole lot more customization options on my machine than I realized. I already loved my iPhone, but I think all the new-to-me-stuff is going to lure me away from actual human interaction even more (as a textaholic who is often uncomfortable with real live phone calls).

It's nice that this book comes with online training content, but that's not what was looking for. It's nice to have the multi-media option available if I want it, but I haven't checked that route out and probably won't. I guess I'm a Luddite with a smartphone. :)

Recommended for iPhone novices and also for middle of the road users like myself. This manual isn't for the tech elite; it doesn't suggest creative hacks or any information this isn't for free elsewhere on the web. It does pull together a lot of useful applications in a very clear way, all rounded up in one place. Four stars.

3.0 von 5 Sternen basic manual 24. Februar 2011
Von Amanda Hamm - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch|Vine Kundenrezension eines kostenfreien Produkts (Was ist das?)
I picked this book up for a friend and this is what he had to say:

"It is a guide to basic iPhone operation with step by step instructions for most
tasks. I don't think this is widely needed due to the iPhone being fairly intuitive or
at least consistent in design. But the book is much more explicit than the
small "manual" included with the iPhone, so some will find value.

There are a handful of interesting tips that are not obvious, but I would have
liked more. In my case, it was marginally helpful for a different reason. I did not yet
have access to an iPhone and needed to know more about it for a work-related project.

The purchase includes online access to audio and video clips. Videos can be
helpful for some things, but I'd much rather read a transcript of the audio. I
mean, I got the book, right? I can obviously read.

That said, after 2 days of various registration attempts, I was unable to
actually access the online media.

Note that Apple does have a fairly detailed user guide online and available on
the phone itself.

Suggest 3 stars as it mostly delivers what it claims."

2.0 von 5 Sternen Not worth your time 20. Januar 2011
Von Amazon Customer - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

Very basic and reliant on a net connection, this is not anything more than a rehash of the manual. I wanted to know more of the 'secrets' of the iPhone and the hidden functions. Completely worthless for that interest. Just simply not what I wanted.
If you know zero about your new iPhone and want to use a book along with your computer to read about it, then maybe this is your cup of tea.
But I doubt it.
4.0 von 5 Sternen Great book to accompany my iphone 4 18. April 2013
Von Bladen's Mommy - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch|Vine Kundenrezension eines kostenfreien Produkts (Was ist das?)
I found this book extremely helpful when I got my iphone 4. There were several tips I didn't even know about like double tapping the up arrow twice to lock the caps on the keyboard. This may have been common knowledge to some people, but to me it wasn't at all. I also learned how to do the screen shot. All of the hints were things that should have come in an instruction booklet with the phone, but as we know, the phones don't come with anything like that these days.Overall, it was a helpful book and I recommend it to the people that still have these older phones and need some extra help with them.
5.0 von 5 Sternen If you get an older iPhone... 6. April 2013

This is really good for the older phones, but since technology is racing ahead so fast, I don't know how helpful my review will be. :) I had an iPhone 3GS, which of course did not come with a decent manual. I'm old! I haven't grown up with all this stuff - I need at least a starting point!

Plus - not a fan of iTunes.

So this book did come in handy. If you have a slightly older iPhone and are older than 30, this is a nice addition to your technical library.
