This book gives a very practical guide of how to find and recruit models to shoot in the nude. I was amazed at how much it made sense with the described approaches; it's very thorough, from ad postings to body language. The book was very-nicely laid out, and well-structured into three divisions: recruiting, working with models, and following through. The book talks about where and how to find models, how to approach a stranger, and how to negotiate compensation. It talk a little about the economics of model compensation that would help you identify situations that would be to your advantage. It's good to know you can hire a nude model without breaking the bank! Building an impressive portfolio seems to be more important that offering prospective models tons of money. It gives specific examples of conversations between model and photographer during the recruiting process and through to the end of shooting. I especially like the psychological component; the fact that recruiting and shooting models is more than just a hobby or business, but a personal interaction that has as much to do with relationship dynamics as anything else. I was surprised at how many nude models were featured, and enjoyed reading the specific examples given of recruiting and follow through with some of the models. I thought the description of first-time model Anna on page 48 was especially alluring. The author makes a distinction between how you should deal with a novice model vs. an experienced one. It's surprising that you still go slow with an experienced model, in order to let her acclimate. There are some references to horror stories of photographers who do the wrong thing just because they carelessly or naively say something to disrespect a model. This book is a must-read for aspiring portraiture photographers such as myself, especially if your focus is on nude models.
